Because it's in 4A. It's doing what it is supposed to do. Like I said, it's somewhat similar to AWD and totally normal to be sending power to the front, even when dry.

Ew. No likey. I thought it just kicked in when needed.

Then don't use it. :)

It definitely does "kick in" when needed, but it has an algorithm it follows to figure out how much power if any to send up front. One of those inputs has got to be wheel spin you would think.

Doesn't the gen 2 have a weather mode... I mean yeah mine will kick and fight right when it first rains after a month of no rain but I'm not shifting into 4x4 that just doesn't sound good for the truck at all

My dealing with 4A overall not a big fan unless higher speed driving. Wife likes it.
In the right conditions maybe, but sometimes when it kicks in it kicks in too hard from a stopped/low speed condition.
I do like it for higher speed highway driving and winter conditions. Owned/own both a 13 and 16 F150 with the feature, respectively.
Personally short of really bad snow and ice, I like 2WD initially. Gives you a better idea of road conditions...if 4A is kicking in and you don't know it well, may not leave yourself enough stopping room either...
Personally only time I could picture use 4A or 4H in rain would be a long hot dry spell and an initial rain, crazy how slick the roads can get, especially like Vegas. Or on roads that are being flooded...can't say I've ever done it tough, 2WD has always been adequate for me in those conditions. I've though also had to use chains on my trucks to be able to get to where I am going in off road hunting spots. Also been in black ice conditions where the only people getting anywhere even on the highway were those with chains/cables/good snow tires...and no it wasn't just because law enforcement required them.

4A engages the the IWEs and gets the TC clutch active to engage front diff. I like 4A on my ram when towing the snowmobile in the winter time. Perfect for letting the system work its magic.

I dunno how the tech works, but it definitely feels different in 4A vs 2H. It feels like it has more rolling resistance even at low speeds in a straight line. Just pulling away from a stop light I can tell. It's minor and not a problem at all, but enough to make me wanna drive in 2H whenever I can.

4A vs 2H should feel different even when the TC is not locked...in 4A you are spinning each axle side as the IWEs are engaged...in 2H these are not spinning.

My point is, why is four wheel drive kicking in in the rain? That's what I meant by touchy. It seems unnecessary to me.

It doesn't just kick in. You have to choose weather mode which is 4a by default or put it in 4a in whatever mode you want if you feel like it. You can leave it in full time 2h if you want. Some possible combinations for slick weather conditions would be normal 2h, normal 4a, sport 4a, weather 4a, weather 2h. Drive modes automatically have their preset transfer case setting but it can be manually changed via the dial on the dash.
