hm i couldn't align anything without the cam bolts. by 10,000km i had 2 broken gear assemblies, 2 broken steering pumps, 2 broken wheel hubs.
i use 4x4 almost everyday, and i beat the shit out of my truck, like really beat the shit out of it. but it was that damn top perch for me that broke everything, the inner CV joint on top perch binds from time to time especially when you make drifts, turns in 4x4 spinning the steering wheel, the oem articulation of the cv joint rips the boots. The reason you can run RCV and top perch is because RCV has a way greater articulation angles in the joint's so they never bind. it's a good upgrade imo

Yea I has to do the cam bolts also. Did that when I went to the rpg race line ucas. And tie rods. Keeps the lower control arms in place.

Best of luck hopefully 2013's aren't going to be breaking like the 2012's did.
The reason i know all this is because i am running no inner boots on both sides, (old cv shafts, have 2 new ones for snoball 500, just breaking these)
and when the boot is actually off and the cv's spin you can see the angles they are running. Ive adjusted my kings starting off from top perch basically and as soon as i hit the road with that setup my cv's were binding like crazy making cracking noises. I lowered it half an inch and viola!!!!! 4hi, 4lo works No problem and ive been running these busted CV's for a few months now. first both boots were torn completely and after 2-3k KM they finally just fell off. I got salt, mud, waTer, sand ect in those joints and they have YET to fail me. Infact today i went through 4 feet of snow and in and out of frozen mud holes in 4wd. No binding, no noises, nothing.
I'm actually really happy that i won't need to replace a CV shaft every time i go wheelin

I just don't see the purpose of driving in 4wd on pavement or hard surfaces that would cause the tension and hard bindings to break cvs. When I offload I'm mostly in 2wd unless there is good mud and with mud in 4wd it doesn't put up much tension. That's just my thought on it

It is not driving on pavement that breaks them. Being on top perch causes the cv joints to be in near bind while static. Once you get in a deep mud hole and have to muscle the 3 ton beast out. Sawing the wheel back and forth to climb out of the clay, mud, muck.. It eats the cv joints up.

I have NEVER used 4wd on the pavement wet, dry, snow cover, or whatever.

As far as my tests went in trying to figure out how all this works.
Basically i had a cv with a pinhole in te boot. 5 days after i bought a brand new one and first time offroading with the new cv.
I took apart the cv axle and bought a boot repair kit and greased the ******.
I was on top perch and as soon as i put on the fixed cv axle it tore again within a few km on a gravel road in 2wd why?
Well as everyone knows 2012s have the front diff and even in 2wd the front cvs spin unlike 2011s 2010.
Because top perch means the geometry changed the oem cv joints cannot articulate enough causing the cv boot to wrap and eventually tear. The oem cvs are just a longer version of the oem f150 cvs, the technology of these is outdated and im dissapointed in ford not updating anything with their cv technology. Im not saying include rcv par products but atleast more research in how the cvs affect our trucks. Ive seen reputable shops in canada which build custom cv shafts for order from chromoly with high quality joints and tougher rubber boots. Also when the cv seizes up it can really damage the wheel hub splines as well as gear assemly.
I was rock crawling in 4lo and my left cv binded up and broke 40% of my splines on my left wheel hub. And because of the seisure it broke the left side of the gear assembly and i mean snapped it!!!
I bought aftermarket f150 cv boots they seem 10 times thicker rubber, it fit perfectly on my other cv, planning to change the boots to these boots on my new cvs later on when i maintance them to greAse them up...... If i dont break them by then atleast...

Interesting. Well the looks are enough for me to at least risk it. And if they do break oh well ill beef up the front end. The last thing ill do is drive a truck with the ass standing up haha
