Installing headers without port matching is a waste of money and more often than not will rob you of HP. The exhaust ports on OEM engines are very restrictive. Do it right and you will get the benefits.

You will absolutely gain HP with headers and a proper tune without port matching.

A better statement might be more along the lines of without port matching you'll end up losing under the curve torque and HP but you will gain peak HP. Everybody (not you, the collective "everybody") gets hooked on the numbers. Numbers don't mean much of anything if the curve isn't nice and flat across the board. I would easily sacrifice peak HP and TQ for a nice flat TQ curve that gave me power all across the powerband, not just up top.

Here is the problem with seeking power. At first it's not too expensive but you will want more. Then it's the more you spend the harder it is to make a lot of power without going to forced induction. Cams and heads will not get you any where near as much as a supercharger or turbo. Course you will spend a lot more on that modification. The real problem is when is the point where you say "enough" or does your pocketbook say it first!!!

The most bang for your buck without adding a SC or turbo, I'd say would be the classic trio of a CAI, Cat-back exhaust, and a Tune.

Save your money for the Blower

it's not about "bang for buck"

A blower is a feeling ----> Torque in your pants feeling!!!
:naughty: ~ that only a blower will provide

:birgits_tiredcoffeeBesides . . . ever guy knows that.
:Caffeine:
Forced Induction ~ FTW (unless you're off-road a lot)

Something like this huh. With a custom tune ( 37" tires ) under load simulation, I gained 170 FtLbs/TQ at 3350 RPM. Then as you can see its all downhill. To maintain that useful torque across a broader range the motor needs work.
I don't really care about HP numbers, torque is what gets you moving.
