Lot of buzz and drone with SW

Just had stainless works headers, high flow cat, x-pipe, true dual chambered exhaust and tips and the drone is horrible, gives me a headache. My SW setup has really bad drone and buzz at 1500 RPM and during acceleration. Back to the drawing board for something with less drone and/or resonator. From other threads, sounds like replacing SW chambered mufflers with Magnapack or Corsa are good options to reduce drone. Or, adding back the stock resonator. Will try moving the tips out as well.

Give them about 500 miles to the note don't change much but IMO the stainless settles in the mufflers. It's amazing what moving the tips out dose.

Lol I cut my exhaust Off right after the muffler before the rear axle and dumped it....I got tired of my exhaust mounts/hangers breaking.

Is that the setup you had In your video? I'll be running the MBRP turndown.

Has anybody ran the stainless power headers yet?

No in my video I had the stock tips out the side. It sounds a heck of a lot deeper now and it's got some serious rumble lol.

Ask about wall thickness for stainless exhaust pipes

I bought SW headers, high flow cats, x-pipe, dual chambered exhaust system from MarylandSpeed, to include coating from Airborn. Great package price and job installing as well! The only issue so far is the annoying drone of SW system. I adjusted the tips out which seems to help a little, but still get drone. Good sound, but the drone gives me a headache.

Of course, I have a hearing aid so probably more sensitive than most.

The mufflers sit underneath the gap between the cab and front of the bed, so figured getting some resonance in cab as sound travels up the back side of the cab. There is also a large black plastic vent on lower right, back side of cab just above mufflers that may contribute to drone coming into cab.

One thing I should have researched is the wall thickness of the various stainless steel exhaust systems, especially the x-pipe and mufflers. Believe SW is either 16 (.0625") or 18 (.05") gauge wall thickness, I have to call them to find out, just so I know. I went to a custom exhaust shop and they use 14 (.078") gauge 304 stainless steel, heavier, but they said would help reduce resonance in any system. When you tap on the SW pipes and mufflers, you hear a very tinny, high pitch sound. When you tap on 14 gauge stainless pipe, you get a more solid, deep sound.

Anyone heard about using thicker 304 stainless steel pipe to reduce resonance/drone?

SW sound is good, but in hindsight, would have picked different muffler setup, probably Corsa, since I'm just not into the drone. Or, just get SW headers/cats and stick with stock exhaust.

Was thinking about switching out SW mufflers with Corsa, but don't think Corsa has 18" mufflers that would fit in the existing SW system.

I've got SW headers (no cats) and lightning style. Drone is horrible at 2k. But drops out completely at about 2300rpm. Too bad that's exactly where the damn speed cameras go off here. :(

I'm running a whole new set up on my SWs. I broke the damn axle back clean in half so I did away with it and just ran a small section of 3.0 pipe after the sw y-pipe to a new 40 series muffler and put turn downs right in front of the rear axle. Reinforced the shit out of it with the hangers and all that's left is to throw a small flex pipe in there to help out.

I'll post a new vid soon enough it sounds nasty. Sorry for all my other videos no longer being up I had to go ninja for a bit while I had my blown transmission warrantied and fixed lol.
