7 coats? I am planning on doing mine this weekend, but I figured 4 coats would be enough, just trying to make it last longer?

4 looked kind of blotchy. I did 1 mist coat, 4 wet coats and 2 more wet coats holding the can about 18" away to give a smooth and somewhat textured finish. There's no doubt I went overboard but it was about 65* and crisp today so the coats dried in 15-20 mins vs. the 30 mins stated on the can.

Right on, how many cans did it work out to be?

About 1.25 cans. You can probably get away with 1 can...I only added the extra coats because I totally OCD'd out and because I bought 2 cans. Had I only bought 1 can I'm sure I would still be happy.

One more note, although you can peel off/rub off PlastiDip over spray... I spent about 10 minutes taping everything off and I feel as though that ultimately saved me time

Looks good sir.

As per plasti dip and how many coats, I find anything under 5 is no bueno unless they are heavy heavy coats.

My most recent white plasti dip adventure I did 6 coats and am satisfied. Thick enough to look smooth, and peel easy when wanted. But not so thick that its wasting any.

I got 5 cans waiting to do fender flares and bumpers, will go grab more if I run out but I think it should be close to enough.

5 cans should be good.

I used 4 cans when I did my grill and hood. The hood took a lot. And I had enough with 4 cans.
Barely enough but enough haha.
