Sounds like it will not hurt the engine if running a lesser octane and not ******** around with the tune. The only degradation would come in performance. This is nice to know. Are there really no other tunes out there compensate for the different octane types?

I'm just curious...at a difference of roughly $5 between 91 and 87 octane fill ups...is this even a discussion?

I mean...we own $60k trucks...is $5 going to make that big of a difference financially that it's worth sacrificing the performance.

I still like that the SVC Tune allows the choice though.

5 bucks is 5 bucks. I own a GTR and I would run 87 in it if I could. To each his own.

91 is 70 cents higher than 87 here and sometimes up to 90 cents. Not sure where you are getting $5 cause its more like $25-$30.. I honestly do not see or feel that much of a difference to justify anything.. I use 87 except when going off-road.

Amen! I used E85 in the GTR because it's good for 25-30WHP, not going to run 91 for a bit of extra power if I don't need to. I run 91 off-road just for the hell of it, not a drastic difference in power.

To each theyre own. I prefer to run 91+. I actually get about 1 -1.5 mpg average better per fill up using higher octane over 87. (your results will vary), but even if it was just a 1 mpg increase, your gaining 36 (screw) extra miles over a tank. Thats 3+ gallons for me. @ $4 gallon, thats $12 bucks worth. Now you may ask, well 87 is already cheaper.... Well in my area, its a 30cent differance (your area may vary). 30¢ over 36 gallons is only $10 less than premium. So actually im ahead by $2 and slightly better power response by using 91+.

Your results may vary :)

Good to know - thanks SVC for confirming that your tune compensates for different octane levels without hurting the engine.
The custom tune I had here also does the same, but I am interested in how my power increase compares.

I run 92 in mine (high octane in WA) and it seems to run a bit stronger/better gas mileage. I've swapped back and forth a few times and it seems when it's hotter out there's a bigger difference. Could be variables in my testing though!
