Ultimately this should be about what you the FRF and Raptor owner what to see or learn from this.....again I am 99% sure for FOX or King and 100% sure for ICON that we built the shocks for installation in the stock mounts to enhance the over all performance of the Raptor.

You guys run with it and do your best to figure out what is desired and most of all please make this a fun experience for you all.
Fair enough.

Thank you again for everything ICON. For the hardware, and the discussion. I think I speak for everyone when I say, its VERY much appreciated. :head3:

if bump stops are recommended by all shock suppliers than I would say it turns to ease of set up with performance of shock.

We should start calling you SUPERbird haha I know the buys at RPG are gonna be a little busy this weekend taking the Chris's Ross truck out and of course building Jarretts truck as well but I'm pretty certain he will help out a little on this!

Very cool. New info added to the first post, highlighted in green

I had originally posted that Jarrett offered a stage 1 and then edited until I spoke with him on the phone. Now we are good. Stage 1 RPG kit will be loaned by RPG. Factory bump can be retained. All we would need to do is advise the shock manufacturers that the frame kit will reduce the distance to the bump by 1/4". Of course ride height has to be offered for tuning as well.

Don't want to force that option on anyone but it's there if you want it. Jarrett seems in agreement that all 3 manufacturers should be OK with this route and can tune accordingly.

Shock Shoot Out or Ego Boost.

I thought this thread was about testing Raptor shocks. In my opinion the trucks that are doing the testing should be bone stock except for the coil over's that the manufactures are suppling for the test. I think some testing rules should apply here.

1. Qualified drivers testing the product. Only advanced drivers only.....
2. Bone stock Raptor's. No upgrades at all. Not even wheels and tires. All stock Raptor parts must be retained on the truck except for the shocks including the sway bars.
3. Tire pressure must be the same on all tests.
4. 3 different types of tests should be done. Test 1. Endurance test this should be done over long distances and include (7+ hours off road) (G-outs) (whoops). Test 2. should be over a desert whoop section 2-3 miles long. Test 3. Rock's, Rock's and more Rock's not stones but real Rock's.
5. Manufactures who are providing the shocks can not modify or add any custom set ups. The shocks must be one's off the shelf.
These tests will show the effects of the different types of off road terrain will have on the shocks.

I personally think the Endurance test will be the proving ground and show what shock manufacture stands out from all the others. This is a awesome way for the consumer to really see what these shocks can do and WHO really makes a first class product.

I have had the pleasure of testing all 3 Manufactures listed and I am very excited to see this on the forum. If I had a stock Raptor I would be in 100%.
So who wants to lend me one ????

I realize this is an un-biased manufacturer shoot out, but if we can be of any assistance we're happy to help out.

Thanks for the thoughts Outlaw!

Yep, this thread is all about testing shocks! And it sounds like you've got one heck of an idea on how to test 'em. But much of what you're describing and suggesting is beyond the scope of what we can pull off realistically, and while I agree with you in a few spots, I disagree in others for our purposes. Specifically:
1) We will be running with beginner, intermediate and expert drivers. The supporters of this test range all over the board in terms of skill level behind the wheel, and so our drivers need to reflect that in order to help give a spectrum of impressions.
2) The Raptor we go with will in large part be dependent on which truck shows up for loan. I'm not going to be picky, especially when it comes to things like wheels and tires. So long as they're the same wheels and tires for all shocks, the relative differences will be pretty evident if they exist.
3) Agreed on tire pressure! That's just one detail among a dozen or two that need to stay consistent.
4) An endurance test is not realistic. A desert whoop section is on the list for sure. Rocks... we'll need to play that one by ear.
5) Agreed totally. I've made that clear and will continue to make it clear.

With all that said, I love the idea of an endurance test such as you describe. I strongly encourage you to organize something like that here on FRF, and make it happen! Lots to be learned in something like that for sure.

Thanks again!

Wonder if a thermocouple like a leaf style stuck to the shock body would be useful to see/compare shock temperatures during action.
