Supercharger or not?

i have heard of several people with superchargers dropping their driveline. couple people i know. normally a chevy poblem, but the additional hp from the supercharger and tune can twist off you driveshaft so probably upgrade that too

Thank you all for your input. I am going to order the Whipple stage 2 with the extra fans etc. I will also order the oil pump. I appreciate all of your feedback.


If I were to purchase the kit aftermarket, I would have went Whipple. The TVS is nice, but the 2.3 vs the Whipples available, there is certainly a difference. Whipple also has improved reliability of the earlier twin screws (K-B had more of the issues with rotor tolerances). The TVS is very reliable, though leaves some HP on the table, especially at higher pressure ratios (generally more of a Mustang consideration).

So the only fuel system parts you get is a bigger set of injectors huh?

Have you guys running blowers with an injector-only fuel system upgrade checked/logged your fuel pump duty cycle under full load/boost?

I believe back in the day, JDM posted a whole section about fuel pumps, saying they are not needing an upgrade unless you go bonkers on power, these bolt on kits are supposedly fine for the stock fuel pump.

Oooo... I always forget. I did upgrade my rear driveshaft through JDM.

I supercharged my 2012 at 50K miles and have had no regrets. It's a different beast. Couple things. Make sure to upgrade your oil pump. Also (your results may vary here) my stock exhaust couldn't handle it. I blew one cat and cracked two exhaust manifolds before biting the bullet and going to a full exhaust system. Others have had better luck.

You're mpg is going to go down, mostly because it's pretty impossible to lay off of the skinny pedal.

I do a fair amount of towing a toyhauler camper up the Rocky Mountains. I originally had to upgrade the tranny cooling (not due to the supercharger), but now I have to watch my engine temps. I have enough power that it can start heating up during long nasty uphill pulls if I don't chill out. I'm probably going to upgrade the radiator soon.

No real issues to speak of other than that.
The installer is calling for a billet crank gear as well. Anyone suggest that ? Also what plugs and wires should I get to go in at the same time?

Doesn't your kit come with the new plugs? I think the stock wires are fine unless they are old and worn out.

I believe your installer is recommending the billet oil pump gears that go on the front of the crank in the oil pump housing.
Also, I run stock wires. I may use aftermarket ones when it's time for new coils and plugs.
