If its under 20K, buy it. Cage, short course rear suspension, mid-travel, fenders/bedsides, 39s or 40s.

Sell the stock parts. ( which should net you around 5-6K )

Bonus money for yanking the EB, selling it, and swapping in a coyote. (should be able to get 8-9K for the engine/trans combo)

If done intelligently, with a buy-in price of less than 20, you could have one hell of a prerunner for under 100K.

any well-used legit pre-runner probably SHOULD have a salvage title based on all the abuse that they get put through.

Kill switch is a great method of stopping someone from even starting your vehicle.

You have to be careful with kill switches; it's not like on older vehicles where you can just interrupt a circuit with a toggle switch. Many circuits have constant power and/or are monitored by a module. So if you installed a cutoff switch for PCM power, for example, the PCM would set DTCs for powering down prematurely after you turn the vehicle off and toggle the switch.

There is really no purpose of a cutoff switch on any modern vehicle with Passive Anti-Theft; if the unique identifier in the ignition key or Intelligent Access fob does not match the data stored in the Body Control Module (BCM), it will not allow the engine to start. There are literally billions of possible code combinations. Even if a thief had access to Ford's IDS and a VCM II, as soon as they break into the vehicle and the alarm activates, the BCM goes into a protection mode and will not allow key programming to occur. The only way to steal one of these vehicles is if the thief has access to a programmed key or they tow it away. I have heard of key "cloning" where the thief captures the signal emitted by the Intelligent Access fob and then uses it to create a fake key, but that requires that the thief be within a few feet of the key and has access to high end expensive equipment, which your average degenerate car thief is not going to have.

Just a note When I park my truck (Raptor) anywhere I try to remember to put it in Valet mode. If anything they would be restricted to 5 mph. Am I correct in saying this?

Seems like you should be able to test that yourself, right? Put it in valet mode, and then try and drive faster than 5mph. I've never put mine in valet mode (I don't even know how, honestly), so I can't confirm...

Barring the Ford dealership finding anything wrong mechanically with the truck, it sounds like the damage is only cosmetic. A good detail, maybe a new paint job/wrap and you’re set. If I were in your shoes, I’d do the rebuy, fix up what bothers you. Invest the difference in the market and get two new trucks when Gen 3 comes out in a few years.

Just gotta be ready to accept that you’ll take a bath on any resale of it with the rebuilt/salvage title.

As far as how it was stolen, he broke into my work truck and let's just say he got lucky ( until he was hauled off to jail )

Insurance- no problem
Loan - no problem ( if I get one )
Yes an inspection by chp will be needed- but for a theft recovery not expecting much trouble

Im kinda looking forward to bringing it back to life
Unless something weird comes up- the truck will be back where it belongs

They ordered a replacement key from BMW while the car was in for service, 3 days after I picked the car up, it was stolen from work. Coworkers saw it drive away. Checked around after the fact, and one guy had 2 BMW's stolen, same mo, same dealer....
