The problem is that your neighbor doesn’t speak for, represent or accurately reflect the behavior of any officer/deputy in the department except him or herself. From what I can tell from talking with my neighbor who's a cop, if you live in an area where there is some crime, domestic abuse, drug use, somewhere in the jurisdiction, they aren't going to give a dang about your front plate. If you put a 'Defund the Police' sticker on your vehicle, you can pretty much guarantee you'll be pulled over though.
True. If they were such a great idea, how come motorcycles aren’t required to sport front plates? They did you a favor. Front plates are stupid. I lived in MO for a couple years and never ran a front plate.
Just a cautionary tale from your friendly neighborhood doomsayer. year and years ago I was tooling around in my 5.0 GT, stuck behind some slow moving 12 o’clock on a back road. I got impatient and passed them and was moving at a pace much closer to the speed limit than the now 6 o’clock slow mover, when a doe decided to jump in front of me. I was able to brake a little, and the damage wasn’t disabling, but it was there. front bumper, light assy. and hood.
After some fighting with insurance, I got a new bumper / cover but had no plate bracket mounts, so once the body shop cleared me, I resumed life, with the plate in the window pending mounting of my bracket and plate. I dawdled on the install, because... no reason, I was just lazy. MD S/P though have nothing better to do than 1) walk out into Interstate traffic to point at cars they want to stop -- for those of you not local to DMV, yes, in fact, they are THAT STUPID, and in fact do suffer injuries and death from this behavior and 2) find excuses to justify their existence. I got stopped for not having the plate displayed “in the proper place” explained, even had the body shop receipt, but in this trooper’s estimation it was too long a period of time.
Fun fact: That is a moving violation in MD, which translates to more cost to insure. I got a lawyer, got it reduced to an ‘improper equipment’(?) charge, to preserve my rates.
So, you may get away with not running a front plate, or you may not.
