hello everyone, i bought a f 150 raptor 2013 recently. I live in a cold mountain location, only 10 days ago I changed the steering pump because it was broken and the steering does not work

, now the steering makes the same noise only at ingreasing rpm ( 2000rpm) but it is working well

, the oil that has been put in the hydraulic system is the mobil atf 320 and the average external temperature is 0 C

does anyone know if it can depend on the cold? or maybe the oil is wrong?

thank you all!

Welcome to the forum!

Your power steering system requires Ford Mercon LV, which is "Low Viscosity" Mercon. The Mobil website lists ATF 320 as compatible with Mercon, but not Mercon LV. The higher viscosity of the standard Mercon fluid is most likely the reason that your pump is making noise.

Also note that if any contamination was found in the fluid from the failure of the original pump, the system should be flushed and the reservior should be replaced after flushing. The reservoir contains a filter screen, so any residual debris will cause a repeat power steering pump failure due to a lack of fluid flow.

thank you very much! I change everything, I hope the pump or other components have not been damaged, you are very kind!

ps

the raptor is a incredible car, on ice conditions is better than a audi ahah

I agree!

It shouldn't be damaged as long as you drain the fluid in it and refill with Mercon LV. Damage would most likely occur over the long term due to the higher viscosity fluid putting more strain on the pump.

hello everyone again, I changed the oil but the noise remains the same, can the pump be defective even if new? or is it normal for it to remain noisy? ideas?

thank!
