Installed cheap stealth backup light today. It’s a 14” single row LED bar that I bought from Amazon. Currently it’s only hooked up to the reverse lights, but I will eventually wire it to one of the upfitter switches. Bright as hell and pretty stealthy. Perfect for backing up, hooking up a trailer or anti-tailgating lights. Lol

Install was pretty easy. I fabbed 2 L brackets and secured it to the tow hitch frame. For now, I just tapped the reverse light power from the wire bundle behind the 7 pin connector.

Unfortunately while working on the project I dented the tailgate! I lowered the tailgate with shit still on the bumper. Ugh

If anyone is interested here is the amazon link:

Ouch on the tailgate but love this setup...thanks for posting, ordering now!

Which wire did you tap for the reverse light?

Looks great! Exactly what I was looking to do as well. Do you have pictures of the mounting points? What do you recommend is the best way to tap off the trailer wire - quick splice or soldering and heat shrink?

That is one of the stealthiest setups I've seen so far with a stock bumper. I like it a lot!

As for the tailgate, I've been there and done that before on a previous truck, and I wanted to kick myself. From the pics, it looks like a good paintless dent repair shop should be able to make that disappear like it never even happened.

Not sure why I didn’t get any email notifications, but I just saw the responses.

Here are two pictures of the simple L brackets. The pictures aren’t great because it’s dark out now. I drilled 2 holes per bracket and used self tapping screws for now. I might eventually take the screws out, tap the holes and install bolts instead. Probably not necessary but I’m gonna keep an eye on it.

For power I tapped the center wire on the 7pin connector.

I tried to get accurate pictures of the light output but I had some trouble. I think my phone is automatically making adjustments because the pictures don’t look like real life. The other issue is my driveway is angled and the light is flooding the street instead of the neighbors house. I’ll try again tomorrow night, maybe in a dark parking lot or something.

On the fence with this, I like it though.

What’s the quality of the light? Think it will last?

I am thinking of running it to an upfitter switch.
