Yeah, I had the chance to have my ’24 Dark Horse delivered driven to my house with paperwork, and I even thought about it but 2 things changed my mind
1) they wanted a few hundred bucks to do it. More than 500.
2) I realized that things in my life aren’t simple. Ever. I red teamed about a dozen scenarios resulting in an unsatisfactory experience and thought better of it.
I have said before and will reiterate for the masses ( we really need to make this a Bingo ).
ALWAYS test drive your Raptor BEFORE you sign on the dotted line.
This isn’t new and you’re note the first or only one and you won’t be the last. I remember in the Jen Too was new era we had
- guy who drove a few miles and the coolant hose blew off
- another one who drove off with loose transmission fittings, again made it a few miles and no further.
- a guy who did a fly/drive and left a key fob in the truck and it was jacked while he slept
that last one wasn’t a mechanical but happened because people cramming too much stuff into too short a period of time. I’m guilty of this too. Scummy dealers prey on this, prolonging the amount of time you’re there, hoping to add on stuff as you are worn down and just want the whole experience of buying the vehicle to be over.
You find yourself having this internal discussion something like ‘if I just agree to this add on, I’ll be on my way in 10 minutes and it’s only a few hundred bucks, what’s a few hundred bucks on top of 80 grand?’
My Dark Horse? I caught the first flight out, got to the stealership about 9:30, inspected vs. the known issue Mustang punch list, test drove and found tire PSI way too high, but overall performing well. visual inspection was very tough, the dealer was on a dirt and pea gravel lot that left every vehicle around covered in dust. Even so, I found scratches on the hood that had to be buffed out and they couldn’t find the 2nd key up until about 5 minutes before I hit the road just shy of 3:00 PM. If I’d opted for delivery, 100% I would not have signed and it would have complicated what was otherwise a good deal.
It isn’t just the money you spend on a Raptor, there are plenty of folks here on FRF with enough disposable money to own a fleet of Raptors. It’s the time and hassle associated with it.
Lots of folks have Fúck You money, but do they / you have Fúck You Time ?
Also, who here has had scintillating and intellectually fulfilling conversations with their tow truck driver?
