They should all be 1.25 I believe. The difference in model years was coarse vs regular.

That should be a good spot. The wood will help disperse the weight and keep anything from getting damaged. It's not good practice but without an engine lift you don't have many other options.

I used stage 8 bolts and I left them all out. When I got the header in position I put a couple of the lower ones in so I could hook the header on there to hold it

I put the bottom ones in so I could set them on the bolts and they wouldn't fall out of position. If you have to, raise the engine up some more
