Squadron 2 install blowing fuses??????

I'm in the middle of installing 4 sets of BD lights. S2 pro for back up on switch 5, works perfect & done. Squadron SAE on #1, works perfect & done. Squadron combo on #2, waiting for high beam trigger harness, so parked for now. Squadron Racer on #6 is blowing a fuse after about 2 seconds. Both lights go on for about 2 seconds and then off, when I check, fuse 62 is popped. The light is rated at 2.9 amp and #6 is rated for 5 amp, so not even close to pulling too much for fuse. After it blew the first one I thought possibly it was because I hadn't tightened down the ground fully until I tested everything. I stopped, checked everything, grounds now tight, everything looks good, all clean wire runs, nothing pinched, blew a 2nd fuse after about 2 seconds. What you would check?

It's been 17 minutes and nobody has fixed this for me yet! WTF!!! What do I have to do, show my ****??!!

I assumed the BD rating was for a pair! **** me in the ass!!!! Thanks, now I can redo all my tie ins. Thanks.

I had talked to a buddy that's a full time wrench and he told me to pop a 10 in for a minute and see what happened, and it worked fine. So I guess either put a relay in or switch my circuits around. Thanks again, I was getting really pissed off at myself.

I was getting so frustrated with myself because it's a straightforward install with a factory harness! I kept trying to think how I could have screwed up, and triple checking everything and it all looked good. You just saved me a lot of continued aggravation. I owe you one!!

Is it unsafe for the upfitter wiring to be lazy and just put a 10 amp fuse in? Or should I put a relay in?

No, it is not a long term fix by putting a 10a fuse in a 5a circuit. I think that up fitter has like 24 gauge multi strand(?) 5a is --all-- it should handle, and preferably a lot less.

Wire in a relay. Not ******** with you here.

You spent over $60k on a top of the line off road truck and will penny pinch a $7 spdt or spst relay and maybe $8.49 in wire and connectors?

Get a relay. Wire it right.

Well, that is a pretty hot look on that truck!

The only reason I asked is I thought possibly all the upfitters were wired similarly, but that they ran lighter fuses in some to match up better for light duty accessories. I know in a normal car or truck it would obviously be a bad idea and smaller circuits have lighter gauge wiring and I wouldn't do it. I never worked on anything with the factory upfitters before and didn't know how they set them up or wired them. I actually already bought a 4 pin relay a few hours ago. I figured if I got lucky and you guys told me the wiring was all heavy gauge I would just return it. I had a feeling the answer would be to do a relay, but I was hoping there was a chance for me to do it the easy way for once.

Thanks for the straight advice, like you said, the last thing I want is a freaking fire in my new truck! "(2 X 2.9 ) > 5" will be in my head for a long time! I had it stuck in my head the rating was for a pair. I guess I should make a thread now complaining about the ****** fuses that Ford puts in the Raptors and how a 5 amp fuse blows when all I did was pull 6 through it.
