spare tire locked ? tailgate locked?

Is there an issue with spare tire theft ? does this need to be locked?

also I saw a thread about tailgate theft and locks. but I understand the tailgate locks when you lock the doors so how could it get stolen ?

spare tires do get stolen. ******** crawl under and cut the cable that secures the spare. Yes tail gates do get stolen just because its locked doesn't mean it can't be defeated. Tailgates are expensive. my buddies f250 tailgate was stolen broad daylight at a mall with in 30 min few months ago.

is there already a cable on the spare? or is there a better way to lock it ?

just the cable that lowers and raises the spare. There are some after market anti theft spare tire options. I personally dont have any experience with any of them though.

It’s only a problem if it gets stolen. If it hasn’t been stolen yet, then there is no problem.
