For what
My opinion is unpopular as well; I wish I would've bought the 35. Got a 23 with 37 package and personally don't think its necessary unless someone is actually ripping offroad the majority. I do average 8.6 MPG and feel my motor may pop before 100k though. . . Looking for someone that has tuned their 23 by swapping ECUS to gauge experience. I have dumped enough money into parts now where I am thinking, "Its not like dealer is going to cover it anyways". I like to tell myself "but its not flashed. . . Heard some are finding a 22 ECU and getting it flashed. . .

- FMIC
- SPD Downpipes
- Plugs
- AFE Intake
- Trombone (Not installed)
- Wilwood Kit (Best Mod To Date)
- Charge Pipes/Boost Tubes
- Bunch of other stuff I cant think of; UCA's, Tie-Rods, bumpers/lights, bla bla bla

Been on the fence about the R for quite a few months. I used to have a Focus RS that I had a blast in; that lil car was making plenty of power at the low end. Living in SOCal at the time, Mountune did all the work. Lil car was pushing 500 ft/lbs, 450 HP and I have never been happier ripping around. This post help me decide and everyones comments. Gonna just spend the diff and either build a Shitbox Drift Car or something like a miata with an LS swap to get my V8 Fix. :p
For what the raptor does out of the box and with bolts on and heavy work, ecoboost and it's torque curve is where it's best and useful. The ecoboost with a tune ripping dunes is light work for the motor. Doesn't even feel like it's trying.

The R 5.2 with SC you have to be wrapping it and works harder just to generate boost and torque. I have too much in it now and will be keeping it. I do miss ecoboost effortless torque.

I share your "unpopular" opinion. I went wih a 35 truck and I'm happy that I did. The additional cost of a 37 wasn't worth it to me. The additional $40k(in my case)to go to an R was just not worth it. With that $40k I can buy the property next to me and build a garage on it.

Confused at some of these posts. The 5.2 makes more torque than the EcoBoost everywhere, it peaks higher up sure but it still makes more torque than the 3.5 at 1,500 rpm and at 6,000 rpm.

For reference the 5.2 makes the 3.5’s peak torque output of 510 lb ft at a mere 2,400 rpm. Only thing I can think of is maybe the massive 37’s numb it down a little.

I love the way it’s tuned. When I want to drive like a civilized person I can do that and if I get tired of the other people driving around me, I can get away from them in a hurry.

I could do so easily in the 3.5, but I can do it much more enjoyably in the 5.2.
