MotionX works really well. You can pre-download the map data so you don't have to rely on cell/data coverage. Also importing the routes is simple.

Agreed. MotionX is great. The GLRE route maps will have a MotionX compatible file attached as one of the maps, along with a Lowrance map and a 3rd type.

If using an Iphone you want the MotionX App.

If using an Ipad you want the MotionX HD App.

I know you asked about iPhone/iPad, but for those android people out there I run backcountry navigator on android with the map subscription, it works great.

With any app make sure to cache the map data before you loose data coverage.

I found I used MotionX more during pre-run than the Lowrance, plus I need to pay for the new IWE's i have to have done and $2300 of Toyo's that I bought for SnoBall.

It's a great unit and I love the Topo, but with my new GPS puck from Dual, the SkyPro, I picked up like 37 satellites for navigation on the ipad.
