Why not use the beard (redart) strap and then no shackles are required ? I have been using one for years and never had a problem. I know the rating is not as much as you guys are talking but I have never seen one break and if it does there are no steel projectiles. I have the 30 Ft x 1.25 Bubba rope and dont use it anymore after I got the 2 inch super strap. JMHO. Tim

While we are talking safety and recovery... I just happened to bump into a stump that was the exact height of the front recovery hook (long story) and it just completely sheared the bolts off and the hook/ring just fell off. I didn't even notice it came off until 30 minutes later it was laying inside the skid plate. So my point is be careful if your trying to snatch someone (with a raptor or not) the recovery points are pretty wimpy. From the rear I always hook on to the tow hitch not the 2 little rings. They were only held on by 2 little bolts. Really disappointed me actually. Its on my to do list to beef them up somehow.

I never thought about the bolts on the front ones. I'll check that out. If they're not grade 8, I'm gonna be a lil upset. I know y'all don't want to carry a bunch of extra shit in your truck but a good idea might be to carry a "V Bridle" to hook to both tow hooks so the shock load of yanking on these tow hooks might be cut in half. I've got a guy to custom make straps like that.

Ya the back end is stout its the front end that needs attention IMO. So those with aftermarket front bumpers what happens to the tow hooks?

Huck, saw you have a bubba rope. Which rating are you using, and how do you like it?

I have "the bubba" 28k I believe. I also carry a tow strap.

Each of their own use under the right conditions. I have yet to use the bubba.
