Slight oil drip after 1st oil change on 2020

Just wondering if anyone has seen there truck drip oil from the rear exit of the filter tray after a change. Oil changes aren't new to me as I have done tons of them. I have checked the oil filter being snug. I initially thought it was the old oil somehow laying in the tray then dripping after it sat, but I have cleaned it twice now and its still happening. Maybe there is some cavity where the oil is laying that I'm not feeling or seeing. My next step is to just throw another new filter on it and see if that is the problem. I used a Ford Perf. CM6731-FL820 filter on the change. Thanks in advance.

Did you make sure that the gasket from the old filter came out with the old filter? Mine hasn’t leaked at all.

I had a small oil leak also... but it has since gone away because it was oil resting somewhere it should not have been.

Give it a few days and drive the truck enough to allow the oil to remove itself.

Yes the old gasket was still on the original oil filter. I will drive it a few more days and keep an eye on it. Thanks for the replies back.

Any specific reason you use the FL-820 rather than the FL-500? They should be interchangeable other than the 820 is a bit longer. Depending on how you lubed the surface/gasket and tightened it, the gasket may have been rolled or scrubbed if too dry or too tight. If too loose, then...

I ended up using a Ford Performance 820 which is bigger/heavier and is suppose to be a better filter. It was left over from another vehicle I had so I put it on since it is suppose to fit and be the best filter available.

I have done a ton of oil changes but had never heard of the old gasket not coming off with the old filter. Right when I was pulling down the street to work, lots of smoke in the rear view. Thought something major happened. A buddy mentioned the gasket. Sure enough, that is what it was.

The Raptor oil drain setup is a complete mess. Plus when they moved/redesigned the plug I am assuming they did not change the plate so oil backs up and spills everywhere. My 2003 F-150 had a perfectly shaped plastic catch guard to direct the oil down properly under the filter, and you could easily wipe it clean after, but with the Raptor it just goes everywhere.

Hopefully you are just seeing left over oil leaking that spilled out.
