At our mileage, I would definitely just install a reman transmission and a cooler, but I'm on the fence at his mileage, it's like flipping a coin, should you or not, lol.
Haha right?! Tough call, and great point about the cooler. @MurderedOutSVT we're filling yer shopping cart and all too happy to spend YOUR money hahaha!

I was thinking in terms of, tranny is coming out with the engine anyway, not that it's horribly difficult to drop the trans later on if it fails, but it's a toss up. If it was mine I'd be hard pressed to decide as well.

Soooo. I am now in search of a motor. Got the bad news from the ins. Co. They will pay for the melted wiring and thats it. I'm left to my own to get the motor and have it installed.

The search begins.

Opinions....should I have the trans rebuilt while everything is out? 105K. Kinda torn here. Seems like a good time to do it since the engine will be out and it will be a new engine on a trans of 105K. Not sure how many miles these transmissions are good for
i couldnt get my hands on a new motor. i am having to go the used route.

Does the tranny come out with the motor? I seen most have the cab lifted off at the dealers and pull the motor off of the frame, are they pulling the motor with it? IDK, I'm guessing, if the tranny has to come out anyway, then may as well rebuild it or change it out.

Workshop Manual instructs to remove the engine from the top with an engine hoist. If they lift the cab, the engine can be unbolted from the transmission so it remains on the chassis. If the transmission fluid is clean and it has no issues, I wouldn’t touch it on a stock truck. However, with the supercharger you may want to consider having some of the internals upgraded to prevent a future failure.

Based on all the feedback I have read, you can just run this trans out until it’s dead(risk really damaging a stock older unit that’s behind forced induction) and expect to have to revisit more work a little while down the road. Or just get it over with now if you have the funding available and do it right, with upgraded parts.

It’s one of those decisions based on it could last 200k or pop in 5-10k miles if your pushing a lot of power with the new mill.

Solid advice, so the tech in most cases just unbolts the transfer case and remove the engine/trans the old school way, so I'm guessing the radiator and coolers all come out at the same time, and reclaim the refrigerant as well. Thanks for the info.

Does he have a reclaim machine? Or vent to atmosphere. Oops hope the EPA didn’t catch that. Lol

If you put your reclaim bottle on a vacuum, you can suck 90% of the liquid within a minute, should only take a responsible tech 10 minutes to do the whole procedure, there's no excuse or reason to throw away good refrigerant, this way you know how much you took out and if it match's the factory charge. I've seen all kinds of stupid stuff over the decades.

Imma talk to them and see what all has to come out. So far, I'm Leaning towards trans rebuild or reman
