Can anyone recommend a quality plug/repair kit?

Honestly, they are all about the same, in my experience. I've always bought one off the shelf in Wal-Mart or Target and I've never had a problem. The kit will have two small hand tools, a few plug strips, and some adhesive. Follow the instructions and you're set. I just buy it (usually about $6) and leave it all in the packaging until use.

I would just recommend looking for one where the reamer and plug hook have T-handles. If they’re straight like a screwdriver you’re gonna bruise the F out of your palms getting them into a tire. It sucks.

hmm... I have this other thing that I carry in my truck, it's got a short handle, with a heavy cyliender on the end. You wield it responsibly and use it to impart force upon your target.



I think it will prevent palm bruises, if use correctly.

(but yeah, that is a possible concern)

Understand where you’re going with it but a hammer doesn’t transfer force too well on a springy flat tire. BOING!

Speaking of tire patch kits - anybody have experience with those mushroom style plug kits? I think
it’s called Stop and Go.

I’ve plugged a couple dozen holes with the sticky string type. They work but wanted to try something else.

but you’d need a drill. Probably a bit of overkill but having one in the garage has been helpful.

I'm over 60 and I've never plugged a tire in my life. I did have a damp-looking guy with terrible English and good Spanish plug a sidewall for me in Denver on a Sunday night once. It got us home. I watched him and it was really easy. I was parked in possibly not the best neighborhood in town and got a hole in the sidewall while parked. I'm guessing it was a stray round. If gang-bangers could shoot better, there would be far fewer of them and less property damage.
