Try to remove what you can and coat it to protect from further oxidation.

I used amsoil HDMP. Works great!

Does anyone recommend coating after a salty winter season and some rust showing?

I would wash up the undercarriage best you can let it dry well and have it sprayed by one of those rust proofing shops. I am a do-it-yourself kinda guy but these shops have the high psi and wands to spray deep into doors, frame and other panels. After that you could buy the do-it-yourself cans to keep it touched up.

You might try T-9 Boeshield as a preventative. I use it on firearms for long term storage.

I found out about it from a friend who told me that they use it in Cleveland in the bus repair depot to prevent rust. It leaves a waxy film that protects the metal.

I live in the great white salt/snow belt of The People's Republic of New York State. This has been an especially snowy, crappy year. With it comes the liquid brine and salt mixture, on the roads for several months.

I haven't had my truck a year yet and while washing it today I noticed that my rear tow hooks are rusting, two days ago when I was doing the same I noticed the paint come off, only took one trip in the salt and two days for it to start. .

Sure fire fix. Move to the Peoples Republic of So. CA. Same politics no snow and ice.

Try taking your truck to your local Bedliner shop, around me the rhino guy did my undercoat after the zibart shit all fell off in less than a year. Never go to zibart.

I haven't had my truck a year yet and while washing it today I noticed that my rear tow hooks are rusting, two days ago when I was doing the same I noticed the paint come off, only took one trip in the salt and two days for it to start. Upon further inspection I saw that several different points of my frame are as well, mostly along the welds. I know there are a million undercoating sprays, and I am kicking myself in the ass for not getting to the Amsoil HD Metal protectant before the snow hit.

Anyway I was looking into some other rust protection means. I believe it was Dodge that had used a small electrical current to aid in rust prevention on their frames back in the day.

I did a quick google search and came across this:
Electronic Rust Protection | eBay
AutoRustWarrior

Anyone out there use or know anything about these? Seems to make sense to me in theory. Theory of course, but I want to know if anyone can lay some real experience and knowledge on me.

Let me know where you end up going. I would like to get mine coated too but I have no idea where to even look.
