So that I understand this correctly , there is no difference in the TYT9000 vhf and the Icom F5021 Chase Package ? I noticed that there was a group purchase back in December on the icon . I still need to find an antenna that hooks on to the bed. I am open for any suggestion's.

VHF transmits from the base of the antenna, just like a cb radio. Having it on a bed mount doesn't give it a "plane" to transmit across. You will only transmit in the directions not blocked by the truck itself at the plane level. So the cab and such will block it forward. best bet is mag mount on the roof or if you like to drill holes there is a permanent mount.

I looked at Icom and kenwood. Icom was recommended to me from a local distributor who sold both. They were worried that the kenwood would be over broadcasted by all the Icoms without a repeater. I used it and had not a single issues. Many people who had various other radios in my group and on the convoy up and back are purchasing icom's.

I have no information on the tyt9000.

I got mine from A-beep wireless in joliet. Really good price and they got it to me overnight.

That makes sense with the antenna. Now I need to find an antenna . I was wondering if you purchased the chase package or not? There is a large price difference between the two.

I'm not sure what the chase package includes. I bought mine locally. I know the antenna was separate. I paid $350 for icom f5021 plus mag mount antenna. And that's programmed as well.

Call 815-740-1780 and ask for tami. Tell her Luke sent you

Hi Bager,

As long as it can get the 3 channels mentioned in the post its good to go. The one you linked worries me because it lists specific channels(not including the ones needed) instead of listing a band. Also buying off ebay for this type of thing scares me. I'd rather see you buy off a website who can be held accountable. The one we have is this Wouxun KG-UV6X Dual Band VHF/UHF 200 Channel Handheld Commercial Radio [KG-UV6X] - $174.99 (TreyPal sells them programed.) When putting the post together, I also came across this one. We have never used one of these, so I cant officially recommend it, but the frequencies are the same as the Wouxun, and Amazon is pretty good with returns if need be. Amazon.com: BaoFeng Dual band UV-5R VHF/UHF Dual Band Radio 136-174 400-480Mhz Transceiver: Electronics

other options?? just make sure the frequency range includes
o 151.82
o 151.88
o 151.94

Amazon.com: vhf/uhf radio: Electronics

This kind of radio would be fine?

Icom IC-F5021 VHF 136-174MHz 50W 128 CHANNELS Mobile Radio

Should have read the previous posts. Wow...That's all you guys have been talking about! Behind on posts the last 24 hours. No more breaks from FRF! LOL

Murs are free for public use so you don't need a liscence. When I was trying to find a local place for my icom most people wouldn't talk to me without a liscence.

The "chase package" bundles i saw didnt seem to save you much. Luke, did a-beep program in the channels? $350 looks to be as good a deal anywhere online for that all.

Wilson, if you still want a spare wouxon, mine is programmed with all raptor channels. Used one weekend, have everything it came with plus cig adapter and separate handhed mic

They programmed it for me. I gave them the list from treys group buy post and they matched the channels and powers.
I have to say I called them Tuesday and they had it ready for me that Thursday night so I could leave the next morning for the snoball. Even split the overnight shipping costs because they didn't have one in stock.

They did a great job and it's close. No one else in the Chicago area would even help me without a liscence. That price was including a magmount antenna as well.

If anyone goes that route from chicago area I can pick it up and bring it to the meet and great if you don't feel like driving down. They are not open on weekends.

They will also ship for anyone outside of Chicago. If there is interest in it sound off and I can see if I can get a group discount of some sort. They seemed interested when I asked previously

Sitdown, did you use the cig adaptor? I have not been able to get it to fit in any hole in the truck, well at least no hole that has power to it.
