Let me start out by saying this build was fully paid for out of my own pocket. RPG did not give me these shocks for promotional purposes.
I have been wanting to upgrade to 3.0's for quite some time and researched and talked to everyone I could think of until I felt comfortable with my decision. Corey with RPG did my install the day before the track opened at the Texas Raptor Run:
RPG Stage 4+ with Race Line UCA's.
RPG Frame Support with Air Bump Mounts
Fox 2.5 Air Bumps
National SD Leaf Springs
RPG tuned Fox 3.0 Rear Bypass Shocks
Fox 3.0 Front Coil-over Shocks
RPG Upper Control Arm 1.5 Bearing Race Line
(I'm also getting RPG's Steering Tie Rods but they are not installed yet)
First, my background. I drive off-road pretty much every day. I have a ranch in NE Oklahoma and have extensive seat time in ATV's, dirt bikes, side by sides and trucks of all flavors. I've also done a little bit of road circuit racing. I push my vehicles hard. I don't want to come across like an arrogant *********, I just want you to know I can appreciate balanced machines that reward driver skill.
So I had 2 days and about 250 miles of hard off-roading at the Texas Raptor Run plus a 600 mile on-road return trip.
Off Road impressions: One word. Amazing. RPG has done their homework on this suspension setup. They have obviously not haphazardly thrown this package together and tried to cash in on Raptor owners wanting to make their trucks even better. The new setup performed flawlessly. Like I said in another post, the amount of gain in control is insane. I drove this same course a year ago with my stock truck set at mid perch. I was able to carry significantly more speed through the course this year after this install. Bumps that would upset the chassis on my stock truck are now simply waived off by this transformed beast. RPG has strived at fine tuning this setup and, in my honest opinion, they have built upon the Raptor's capability and made an incredible truck comprehensively better.
On Road impressions: This is the area that I was a little apprehensive about. The competition touts the advantage of easily adjustable shocks and that sounded like a great selling point. The Raptor is my daily driver, whether it be bombing through pastures or going cross-country on vacation. The trip home from TRR settled any fears I had of these shocks not being appropriate for road use. You do not lose any of the plushness of a stock Raptor on the highway. This thing rides like a Cadillac with the Fox 3.0's. After having real-world experience with these shocks, I can't imagine why you'd need the option of adjustability.
Jarrett and Corey are great to deal with. They carefully listened to my needs and offered sound expert advice in return. They have built their business from the ground up and are hungry to be the best. They represent what I love about this country.
I hope this review can be helpful to my fellow Raptor owners out there.
