The set up is really quick and depends on what route and how much of a hurry your are. Ie., if it’s just me no annex and no dog, real time probably 15-20mins in bed. Setting up the annex adds more time and depends how much you add to it. If I do the annex, I add indoor/outdoor carpet on the floor to protect the pvc liner. So add an additional 15 to 25mins. I am currently keeping mine attached on the truck rack for now, but I was able to load it onto the truck with another person. It’s heavy and a little awkward but can be done. Will more people or a hoisting rig make it easier, yes. My future plan is to mount it on a home brew custom camping trailer for longer trips and where more gear is needed.

I will add a few tips that I found out and tweaked as I get more familiar and use the RTT style. I wanted the lowest usable rack (I actually considered even something just across the bed sides). I wanted to stay at or below the roof line of the cab as possible. Originally, the low rack on the bedsides worked well but two things bothered me. The rotopacks would ride on the edges of the bedsides and I couldn’t get my large dog crate in the bed. So reluctantly, I added a section of 2x4s to slightly elevate the rack, while at the same time still lower than the higher version of the same rack. I also have a thúle adjustable rack, but this one is better designed for over-landing and has attachment points on the horizontal panel built in. The thúle rack is great and very capable, but I find it better for carrying canoes, lumber etc.

Test fit with the crate with scrap pieces...later cut to size and stained with a black wood stain. Also was able to lag bolt through the clamping bracket for added additional strength (no holes to the body or bed btw)

The RTT is level and everything was measured and squared, but the wide angle lens on my iPhone camera is distorting the pics...Hahahha.

My Tepui Baja 2 setup on a Front Runner rack. The Baja is SUPER light weight with an almost all mesh canopy (under the rain fly) so definitely only a 3 season kind of tent. If I ever want to take it out of Florida during the Winter I'll have to get a normal Ayer 2 shell to swap out on it with the insulated walls.
