Been looking at bed racks lately. Looking for something to carry a tent that's easy to remove for when I need to haul my motorcycle. Right now I'm thinking my best option in the Thule Xsporter Pro Mid or this rack: https://hutchtents.com/products/custom-rack

My big concern is I'm not sure how the second one mounts onto the bed rails so I'm not sure how easy it'd be to take down. Anybody have any input? Trying to keep price around $700.

I've been looking at the RCI 12 inch rack which looks similar to that hutchtent. I've read that it also is very easy to install with C Clamps, no drilling. About to buy one from OffRoad Alliance. Priced well!

Think I have decided on the RCI 12". For tents, I'm between the CVT Pioneer Bachelor, GFC Superlite, SmittyBilt Gen 2 and Tuff Stuff Trailhead. All those tents have great reviews and seem solid for what I need.

So... the RCI rack, does it come with bolts and instructions to attach this rack to the truck?

Do the tents come with instructions to attach to the rack?

I am going to assume that any tent below 1500 is not rugged? That is what I am finding.

Also please clarify that all I need is the following:
  • Tent
  • Rack
  • Clamps that hold RACK to TRUCK
  • a le' ford rapturr

how many ppl u expect to camp with you? Look at ikamper. Hardshell. Setup/takedown is stupid fast. We have a ikamper sky camp 2.0 and it’s been great. Lots of companies out there tho.

that’s basically the basic stuff you need for a RTT on the truck.

Which version of IKAMPER and they appear to be more than I want to pay.

Ha! That’s how I feel about all of them too. Now that I know the James Baroud hard shell tents exist nothing comes close [emoji31]

I don't need that hard top and all that jazz. I want the simple life. Unfold it, unflop it, cable to ground for stability and put my 3" gel cushion down..

buy once cry once.. you want to unfold, unflop n be done. You don’t need cable for stability the ladder is what supports the base.
Sounds like an ikamper or any other similar tent.
I have the ikamper skycamp 2.0. There’s other versions that are priced cheaper or buy a used one. Tons of ppl are selling theirs that they bought last year during shutdown n want to unload it. There’s a FB ikamper marketplace.
