Thanks Dyno. So, dual sources (power from reverse lights and from aux switch) connected to the same tap?

Yes, it is isolated by the relay & prevents back feeding into the other circuit

Dyno, where did you might your aux switch?

3m taped to the side of the trailer receptacle. Flat black & not even noticeable unless you know it's there. Go2Marine has the switches in stock

here, on frf
that is a reverse polarity 5 wire system. not quite what you would want to use in this situation.

i would use a spdt relay. that way the normally closed circuit can be on a switch and then the reverse lights can activate the relay as backup lights. that way it also eliminates the need for a diode.

Old thread, I know, but I have a question for Noah or anyone else with the info. Where does the trailer receptacle get its +12v from. I'm not getting power to the orange wire, which is labeled +12v. Is this supposed to be a constant 12v or switched? In the owners manual, it says it gets power from relay #9, but where is it fused? And what switches the relay? I'm trying to connect my reverse lights to a switch and I don't want to have to run power all the way back to the trailer wiring, where I'm working.
