A.J.Cruz,

Having been around Raptors for a very long time now, I can tell you that what ever suspension mod you do, it will most likely be a feeder part that will lead into even more mods.

Keep in mind even though we all build our parts to handle better in the dirt, they still add huge benefit when on the street. By upgrading things like tie-rods, uca's, leaf springs and shocks, the on road mannerisms of the truck become way better. Freeway expansion joints, pot holes and bumps are way less harsh or juttery so there is added benefit to pulling the stock stuff off.

Even though a stock raptor can handle tracks like Havoc, TRR and the CA deserts, they sometime get the shit kicked out of them trying to go at a decent pace. When you upgrade your components, you will be able to carry the same speed with much more confidence, which then leads to more speed, which then leads to more components needed.

That's the slippery slope. Which is great for me, but not so great for your wallet or marriage.

So I say, mod the **** out it and don't stop until she's in two pieces. And then we really need to talk.

Jarrett

This man speaks the truth about your wallet and marriage haha.

Run it up till something breaks, then back it down a notch= perfect speed.

That's how I get to know my limits by passing them and then fixing that shit so I can go further next time

Thanks

Thanks again,

I think I'm definitely going to start with a bump stop kit followed by leaf springs.
Unfortunately it might be a little while since I just bought a front bumper, bought me a new AR (DPMS Recon wooo), gotta pay for a Minnesota Thanksgiving vacation, and my wife wants a pistol for Christmas

Until then I'll try to not break my truck.

But I'm all about suspension before anything else (after the sexy bumper that is). I've been eyeing the SVC podium package :hitit:
I think I'd like to stick with Fox shocks just out of loyalty to the original Raptor setup.
So I'm thinking I'll slowly make my way through a good portion of that starting with the back.

Then once I'm happy with the suspension I'm thinking some Fiberwerx or Glassworks front fenders followed by some 37s

THEN when my and my suspension's capabilities pass up the drive train I'll start focusing there. New exhaust and a tune, and I may never get there, but the Hellion turbos get me excited.

Hopefully I can make a Raptor Run next year. I've been keeping my eye on the Texas Raptor Run page but I haven't seen anything for 2016. I'm mad, when I really started looking in to it I had just missed (by days) Raptoberfest :(

While bumpstop kits are very popular, do be aware that this changes the performance of the truck in a rear-end collision. Something to keep in mind.

very true. matter of fact, pretty much anything suspension or bumper related will really affect your crash cumple zones and airbag performance.

go into it heads up, and for gods sake quit texting and driving. (last part a PSA for the terrain Raptor that almost killed me on my motorcycle going down Hall Johnson in Grapevine yesterday - seriously dude you suck balls)

After doing pretty much every stage of build up, my recommendation is to leave it stock.
Don't get me wrong, going all in is way more fun, but a cheaper 2wd model f150 is a more suitable platform for the build, economically speaking.
The difference between a stock raptor and the usual 3.0's/bumps/deavers raptor is about a 25 to 30% performance difference, but you gain little in the durability department.
The difference between a stock raptor and a full long travel setup is a good 100% increase in performance, and much more durability due to the plating/bracing/double shear mounting. You can hit stuff comfortably that would fold a stock raptor in two and leave you with a face full of airbag.
So you need to look at what you're going to be doing with it, now and in the future.

Are you saying a fully built up Raptor is 70% worse than a fully built regular F150 (relative to a stock raptor)?

That seems crazy to me, but i wouldn't know...

He is saying the maintenance and additional problems for the approximate 30% gain isn't worth it in the long run.
@aj.cruz you should check out @WyoStorm's thread on offroading.
And @BigBlue's guide to raptor runs. Both great threads that could use a fresh bump. Lol...

Wut ? :ROFLJest:

I'm saying there is no difference between a fully built raptor and a fully built f150. Every darn thing that makes an f150 into a raptor gets replaced eventually.
A bolt on (3.0's and stuff) raptor is about a 30% improvement in suspension performance over a stock raptor, a balls to the wall long travel f150/raptor is a 100% improvement in suspension performance over a stock raptor.
I'm saying leave it alone, as stock it's good enough for most high speed dirt road shenanigans.
If you want more capability, I'm saying don't muck about, go big and burn some money. It'll be cheaper in the long run trust me... bolt ons are just a gateway drug...

Gateway drug, hahaha. Actually that was pretty good analogy.
