I am looking for a remote start system that is farily basic. I am just looking for something relatively easy to install and will start the vehicle from 500 yards or so.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Viper is the best and has the most features available if youd like. They do sell them with the remote start feature only I believe.

500 yards?? I would install the Ford remote start system since it doesn't use a chip directly out of a key (easy for a thief to use to start your truck) to by pass the PATS system. But I know it wont reach anywhere close to 500 yards.

I have the viper. Purchased it from best buy and had it installed by them. They did an excellent job and it starts up to 3000 feet. Also opens and locks the doors at the same distance. Also tells you if the vehicle had started or not. Model #5301.

Nice. My Viper 5902 cost $1100 installed, and once I figured out the damn button lock so I didn't start it accidentally, it's been pretty good.

Why so much? Is it an alarm also?

Its an alarm, kill, and remote start. Hell, it will open the garage door if I programmed it to. Bo has the same one, but since I'm in Canada, there were a few extra costs, as usual, for the dealer here to get the one I wanted.
The best feature is the LCD display, which can tell you the temperature inside - that way you know whether you have enough time for another drink before heading out into the cold.
