I guess I got lucky with mine. Seems to have great range. Last week we were in a large restaurant. I parked on the side of the building that was brick wall and no windows. As we got up to leave I thought I would try it. When we went outside, I was surprised to find it running!

The antenna for the remote start is located in the rear view mirror. I had an issue with the range and narrowed it down to my EasyPass transponder, which I had mounted on the windshield behind the mirror.

Since the transponder was new, and my wife's transponder was several years old, I transferred it to her vehicle. Then I turned her transponder in for one which mounts to the front license plate. I didn't want it out in the open where it could get damaged or stolen, so I mounted it behind the grill.

The range has improved, I would estimate it at 75 yards, maybe 100 yards on a clear day with no obstructions. I wonder if there's a way to upgrade the antenna? It seems like anyone who has been unhappy with the range, has simply upgraded the entire remote start system.

Of note is that on two occasions during an attempt to remote start the truck, well it kind of died on me. It was like some sort of failed start. It attempted to start but quickly didn't. For the record I'm making the sounds in my head as I try to type this. I can't figure out how to elaborate but I will try, something like "Wrrrppp" then nothing. No matter how many times I would try after it would not remote start. However I never had a problem just using the key to start it. I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced this since we are talking about it?

Yep and all your truck does is chirp. Sometimes if you unlock the doors and then re-double-lock, it "might" remote start.

I just started having this issue yesterday. It's like it just didn't want to turn over. Tonight it was like "i'm lazy and don't feel like making any effort today"...

I had the dealer install the Ford remote start when I bought my truck and it has sucked. Half the time I get errors on my iPhone. I had the Viper smart start on my last truck and it worked perfectly every time.

I was told that the Ford phone app will stop working sometime in the next year or two because the technology it works on (3G I think) will stop being supported by the cellular provider that is used. So any of us that paid around $500 for this additional product will be SOL sometime soon.

I am looking at getting the Viper (or something similar) installed.

Who ever told you it will stop working is a fool. The cellular data service it uses is not being shut down. Yes phone devices might start being produced with out 3g modems and that is to lower costs on producing the phones as they have to pay for the chip and the lic to use it.

I need to do research on the Viper system. If it ties into the ford remote start then fine, but if it bypasses the ford security then I will not be going with it
