Regular speaker upgrades

Has anyone done a more regular speaker upgrade than the typical setups being talked about on here?

I don't need to spend $2-3-4k on a stereo for my truck but the speakers in the Unleashed system are trash. So I wanted to see if anyone has gone in and just swapped out just the door speakers and tweeters.

I ordered a big system from a vendor on here, but I had to break up the install into two days. On the first day, I did the sound deadening, block off plates, and swapped out the door/pillar speakers. Those two steps did make a difference. I suspect that most of that difference was due to the sound deadening and the front door speakers if I had to guess though.

Within your investment budget, speakers will not do much without removing the B&O amplifier from the equation. If you want better performance, block off plates and some sound treatment in the doors. From there, you are replacing the factory amplifier and jumping up into $$$$ to really make a difference.

What is the difference between the block off plates and just using the soundskins kit that covers the hole as well?

Does the block off plate go over the soundskins or do you cut out the hole for the plate? If you cut out the hole do you adhere the extra to the top of the plate?

Think of it like this. An enclosure made out of wood and one made out of cardboard. Sound deadener isn't a good substitute for a plate. The plate will go on first then the sound skin.

I did 80% coverage opposite side of paint within the door, then the blockoff plates, then the sound skin. Having only done one side one weekend and one the next the amount of road noise coming from the passenger side was astonishing.

You can attempt to replace the speakers with aftermarket ones that have a high sensitivity but you're still going to fight lack of power.

Dynamat on the inside of the doors, block off plates and wrapping the subwoofer (w/Dynamat) made a huge improvement
