I had the same concern when I picked up my truck. Checked 2 other SCREWs on the lot and they all did the same- only latching in the up position.

I wish they did lock in the down position. It's really annoying off road going over bumps and jumps with the rear seats flapping up and down, especially if you're sitting back there. I just keep them up now if I don't need them down.

Sorry, it's a supercrew. I know they locked in the down position, I raised and lowered them several times in the first week. I believe it also says it does in the manual. But then one day it stopped locking in the down position...

Mine does not lock in the down position and there is nothing in the Owner's Manual that says it should.

Directly from page 156:

REAR SEATS
Folding Up the Rear Seat Cushion
The rear seat has a split 60/40 cushion.
You can flip each seat cushion up into a
vertical storage position.

Rotate the seat cushion up until it locks
into the vertical storage position.

Returning the Seat to the Seating
Position
WARNING
Make sure that cargo or any objects
are not trapped underneath the seat
cushion before returning the seat
cushion to its original position, and that the
seat cushion returns to the full down
position. Failure to do so may prevent the
seat from operating properly in the event
of a crash, which could increase the risk of
serious injury.

Pull the control on the bottom of the seat
cushion to release the seat cushion from
the storage position.

Yeah, I can see if you were off roading, that would get annoying quickly. There has got to be a fairly simple way to keep the rear seats from bouncing..

Plastic hooked bungee cord from the lower LATCH to the front seat frames? Haven't tried it myself but seems like. Viable solution

I like to keep the rear seats down, although it’s not security, they do conceal stuff well, like rifle cases. Out of sight, out of mind and all.

So weird. I know for a fact mine locked initially. Even on the day it stopped locking it had locked that morning on the down position. I had to use the latch to raise it, then when I took the cargo out, I put it down and just did a test raise to make sure it locked (was down all the way) and was surprised when it wasn't locked.

I'm also mostly certain it is sticking up a little higher now relative to the middle seat. I remember how it looked when I installed the middle car seat and it's higher now.

Seems like in an accident the safest configuration if someone was using the seat is that it would lock when down. I messaged ford on FB and they told me I should take it in to a dealer for it.

Odd things happen when people do drugs...think things were different before when in reality to everyone else its always been that way.

Yeah have I slammed the rear seats in the upright position when off-roading, yep but you have to hit pretty hard on shit or jumping with a hard landing to do it. Have someone ride in back, that solves it or install the d-rings and strap it down. Never ever an issue with pavement driving.
