It would have been beat stock...

The truck ran for about 2 miles at 120 mph...
Stock it could only do 100...

difference in time on that section alone is about 10 - 15 seconds...

think how some of the 5.4 guys have difficulty in keeping up with the 6.2 guys offroad... same might apply... the stock truck would probably loose about 30 seconds to a minute on the road if I had to WAG it.

.

I know there has been a lot of "5.4 vs 6.2" speculative arguments but I've never heard of factual cases of "5.4 guys having trouble keeping up with the 6.2 guys offroad"...

I've been on several off road trips with a mix of 5.4's and 6.2's and the engine size has never been a factor or a consideration as to someone being able to keep up with the group...

Care to share the source for this claim?

Made it up ;)

Seriously there have been a couple vids on here where a 5.4 is dbeing distanced by a 6.2 offroad and the poster has said that they had difficulty staying up on the fast sections...

Honestly I am a 5.4 guy because I did not see a good cost benefit ratio... On the other hand I would expect to be loosing a few seconds per mile across open terrain... same speed braking same speed cruising and a lost half step through the sandtraps and on acceleration.

Hmmm... I must have missed those videos.

In my experience you're not going to loose anywhere near a few seconds per mile across open terrain. If you were doing a lot of full throttle accelerating and decelerating in high traction conditions the 6.2 would have a distinct advantage... but traction on most dirt is limited so in my experience the extra power of the 6.2 just spins the wheels more than the 5.4... so much of the HP advantage is unrealized.

Even in deep sand, while the 5.4 is not as "nice" as the 6.2, a 5.4 certainly has enough power to keep up with a 6.2.

I'm not saying more power is not a good thing... but in the case of the 5.4 vs. 6.2 it's just not going to make that big a difference when you're out running the trails with your buddies.

YMMV

I can agree with most of that... but I still stand behind lost time.... maybe not against my buddies on open terrain, but I bet I could pull a few seconds over a broken surface, if you compared me in a 5.4 to me in a 6.2...

Sounds like a fun challenge! I know Brian made a similar challenge to some of the 6.2 guys but as far as I know nobody ever took him up on it. If you ever get the chance to try something like that on the open trails, I'd love to hear the results.

In the video they showed a loud switch. Is that an electric cut out?

Doesn't that have negative effects on performance?

I think its a electronic cut out...SVTCali on here has one on his truck. There are some YouTube vids of his truck with the cut out. Send him a pm and ask him about it, not sure how often he comes on.
