Don't waste your money on a handheld just buy the mounted. The extra range and clarity is well worth it

Agreed...on the last run when i split from the group to go home, we clear across the lake, length wise (north and south) and had clear as day communication. Skip the waste of money on a hand held unless it's going to be your back-up for when you aren't in your truck.

Im 95% in. Im a little worried because im bone stock....

Get the following: 2 5 gallon gas cans. VHF Radio, and at least 2 spare tires, 5 gallon water container. I would say that's your minimum. If your trying this out for the first time I really recommend a helmet of some type there are a lot of very hard surfaces you can bounce your skull off of.... GPS would be great but for a first timer of you want to cut you can cut that and make sure your between two experienced drivers on the road... One to follow and one that will keep track of you, and the radio makes it possible to tell you, you went the wrong way.. This is not a fully supported off road excursion its just us friends and no one else. I would not leave anyone out there alone and will get you to the nearest point you can call a tow truck from...

Im a maybe. Knowing there will be alot of trucks again in ocotillo will be the same conflict we had on the last trip. I will admit that I do horrible in big groups due to getting antsy of wanting to go faster. The group size we had when we got separated was perfect. Or it was those people that was experienced too and didnt drive like ******* :)
