hey all,
finally got to take the truck off road. Took Big Pine Flat trail up to Big Bear Lake. Everything was going pretty well ( keeping in mind this was my first experience on an off road trail ). We got to a point where the trail started to have some larger rocks etc so I decided to put the truck into 4L.
So we pulled off to a local camp site, found the most level ground I could find ( wasn't 100% flat, but had a slight incline ), put the truck in "N" and selected 4L. Got the indicator on the dash to drive/pull forward so put it back in "D" and gave it a little gas.. Revs go up but the truck didn't go forward but ended up rolling slightly backwards. Then I tried to put it back into 4H and gave it a little gas, and then same thing...rolled slightly backwards. By this point, I am freaking out so I put it in "P" and tried to get out of the truck, and again... it started to roll backwards. So I jumped back in and hit the e-brake. Tried to get it 2wd and it showed on the dash it was shifting out of 4H etc and I looked down and it still said I was in 4H.
Now I'm all confused, so I put the truck back into "D" and gave it a little gas then I started to hear grinding noises ( as if u were driving a manual car and were eating the gears ) and followed by a very loud clunk and bang ( same feeling/noise you would get out of a manual car that u stalled like a a$$ wagon ).
At this point, I am thinking i just killed the trans or something, I put the truck in "P", hit the e-brake and turned the truck off. Waiting a little bit, and before I started it again, I took it out of 4wd and started up. Put it in "D" and gave it some gas and everything seemed to be ok. Put it in 4H again and took it super easy for the rest of the trail.
So any idea on what the weird noises were? And what was up with the truck rolling backwards like that?
Sorry for the long read...
Thanks,
Ray
