Jimmy and I came across this issue very early on, I think like 3 racks total got shipped out like that.

If you drill out the mounting holes to around 1" you'll be good to go, the first few racks had smaller mounting holes which didn't give much leeway between trucks. I also ran the washer head from the bed bolt that was off around my grinder to make sure it sat flush during install. It'll take 5-10min tops.

Do you have the fat man step?

I've got the sissy step on the tailgate if that's what you were asking. I'm quite positive that it's an early rack and like I said, three of the four holes line up. Once it's bolted in, the tailgate hits at the very bottom (plastic trim) of the tailgate. I don't feel that I should have to trim the plastic to make this fit. And before the question is asked, my bed and frame are not bent or tweaked. It was mounted in another truck and it had the same issue. I understand about drilling the holes bigger to allow some slight movement. After two and half hours of fighting with the install and a two hour drive home, I figured I would stop and ask on here. It just doesn't make sense that I should have to make alterations on a drop in rack. Thanks for responding. I'll give the drilling option a go next chance I can.

^You work with Jimmy?

no I don't, I was the first person to officially buy his rack though so we did some trouble shooting via phone/text, and swapped about 100 pics.

Though I am trying to get put on his payroll so I can hire his secretaries if that counts.

Tailgate as far as it will go.

Drivers side edge of bed looking straight down with rack installed. Just about even with edge of bed.

Passengers side edge of bed looking straight down with rack installed. Sits farther forward in bed away from edge.

The tailgate step is what was throwing mine off also. Once you get the extra movement out of the rack you should be good to go.

Jimmy secured any of my future business with how well he handled the 'problem', he made sure everything was 110% correct with both the rack and myself. I agree you shouldn't need to modify a drop in rack, but since it's no longer an issue and because WSI took care of the original purchasers/installers it's hard to hold it against them. At least in my opinion.

ETA: Yeah based on your above pics you def. have one of the first racks, you'll get it in there.

I'm not holding anything against anyone. Does this problem annoy me? Yes. But sometimes shit happens. I understand that. I really like the rack and I'm getting a solid deal on it and want to make this thing work. That's all. Thanks for the advice on the mounting holes. Hoping that works.

I know how it can annoy you, and upset you for sure. I had a nice big sigh of relief when I was able to shut that tailgate without effort.

Just wanted to say thanks to Jimmy@WSI for contacting me about the issue with the bed rack. Stand up guy and a stand up business who stands behind his products. Hopefully the fix will take care of the issue.

Installed my Rack One this afternoon.

Not too happy with the holes being off. Didn't think I could make it work at all at first but in the end, due to the size of the holes, I could shift everything around and only one bed bolt went in slightly off kilter. I don't think it'll be a problem now but worried down the road if that bolt (rear, passenger one by the tailgate) comes out again how and if it'll go in again without stripping. Fits firm against the tailgate now with the gap up front. Not sure I like the gap on either end but I guess we'll see how it goes. Seems more than sturdy enough. Still waiting for the rest of my order after 2 months. Jimmy apologized up and down for all the delays and I'm ok with it since it's March and not run season yet. So here's a few pics:
