ok with talking to my brother inlaw (mechanic of 30+ years), and him looking at my front shock, his idea and what should work.... instead of pulling the shock and using a compressor to remove the shock from the spring, what if you could use like a hook and strap to put on the spring, jack up the front end dropping the suspension and wheel down but keeping the spring compressed. from there just remove the wheel, move the locking ring from bottom to mid, put wheel back on, drop it, and remove the hook n straps on the spring. i hope i got that to make sense, if you understood what i meant, does this sound feasible? why or why not? my brother in law was saying that he thought that Fox made alot of their shocks to be adjustable in the field and this was a way to do it....?

i woulda asked this in the Fox sub-forum, but i bet their legal depatment doesnt like them telling people how to adjust the shocks from stock settings..... understandably so too.

would love to hear some feedback! Thanks!

I understand exactly what he is talking about and have done it before, not on the Raptor... How I have done this before out on the road is with very heavy straps, load the front end down with 4 or 5 guys, tie off the spring, when they unload from the vehicle the spring is compressed enough to be removed easily...

Jugg, call Jarrett at RPG, he can tell you how to get it done with the shocks on the truck.

You still need spring compressors, but his method is SUPER easy.

ok so it *should* work, and the ratcheting straps was kinda my idea and he said maybe, if they were heavy duty enough... and we would be doing this on a lift probably, worst case jack stands in a garage, and then heading to an alignment place.

aslong as it is sound in theory, might be worth a shot to try out in a safe environment. Thanks Hock!

Whet the first coil struts came out on the Gm Cimaron's we had a rental car at work and to get them apart I took banding strapping the metal kind, loaded up the front of the car, set a shit load of bands on it and took it apart... Was easy as hell and since they were the first ones we worked on we didnt have a toll made to get them apart yet...

i was showing him the pics of the step by step from SDHQ, and thats when he said if its just that ring... went and looked and he said he could see the ring while laying under the truck, and thats when he came up with this plan. i trust his knowledge, and ive seen him do some pretty ingenious things, but i thought id bounce it off some people here who have done more things on Raptors.

A buddy and I did mid perch on mine yesterday evening. With air, I think it only took us about 1.5 hrs. Hardest part of the whole process, was finding someone with a big enough torque wrench we could borrow, since I insisted on proper torque specs, and that lower bolt takes 406 ft/lbs.

FYI, it was less than 300 ft/lbs tight on both sidea from the factory...

Hope you checked it with a dial indicator wrench and in a tightening direction... If not its not accurate

OMG and I thought I was being obsessive.

No, I used a weathering click style set to 400 when tightening. Same wrench set at 300 when loosening, and it never clicked.

a rental compressor from autozone and about 45min-1hr of time is all you need to complete the task with the shocks on the truck. super easy

I ran mine to the middle and didn't like it so I put it back to stock within the same week
