Good on you for not keeping it bottled up. You got this. I don't know whether this would be something you're open to, but there have been some really promising results from psychedelic drugs combined with a therapy session. It appears to permanently rewire the brain. You don't much see it around because big pharma controls the news and there's no need for lifetime medication with an actual cure. Might be worth looking around for a trial to get into if you're interested. Lots of research is happening around the country now that the stigma around the drugs has dissipated.
+1. Might want to give it a try. Hang in there. I’m a civilian so I’m sure I can’t specifically relate. But everybody struggles at one point or another—keep talking and stay connected. It’s the best thing you can do.

I gave up on the VA over 20 years ago and will never go back. What has helped me is talking with people I trust, people you can relate. And after a lot of work it does get better, it does get easier, and we do get stronger.

One thing I struggled with to get me over the hump was finding something to do that had meaning and purpose after I left. The military does a fantastic job of programming us all to believe that what we are doing in filled with purpose and meaning, so when we get out that is almost impossible to fill. So when you are ready, try and find something that can help fulfill that for you. Personally I got into dog rescue and fostering (as this is a huge issue where I live) this has helped me feel like I can still make a difference.

Today I had a gun class and 5 of us were prior Military. We left the "always been civilians" and went to another room to start our test. We took it but before long one story led to another story which led to another. Had a Georgia Boy that was Navy, an Army guy who is now a FB friend and this oldddd New Yorker who was Airforce. The Army guy was the real MVP from what I heard. You would have thought we had known each other for 20 years and couldn't wait to tell the next story of the best and worst of times. After about an hour of talking we shook each other's hands and thanked each other for their service. It made my day let me tell you. Just an example of my previous statement to find solace in those who have gone through what you have. They'll understand and you'll respect their feedback even more.

Hey man, just now seeing this post. I'm proud of you for seeking the help you need. I also did my time out there in the shit and you mentioning romanian SOF makes me think I might have been in the same places you were, and that was truly hell. If you need anything, anything at all, send me a message. The friends that didn't come back home with us wouldn't want us going through this struggle alone.

What a great group of brothers, truly grateful for all of you, the broken roads we take lead us to places we never knew we would reach without them, pretty crazy how life works and what we get thrown at us. I tell my wrestling team each match is just like life, adversity, what will you do in real life when you have adversity, quit on your kids? Quit on your wife? Quit your job? Or face adversity and find a way to fight through it and get better. I have to realize my coaching advice and speeches I need to take myself sometimes. It is a struggle and the 21st I'll be at the VA I guess on a zoom call with the psychologist. I hope this helps but I know going from the VA straight to football practice ( due to the time of my appt) I'll have about 35 mins to get my head on straight. But these kids truly help me so much, sometimes I think I need them more than they need me, I'm good with that though , those young men give me purpose and truly make me feel safe and truly loved.
