in several of the GEN3 reveal videos, they state that the frame/suspension was engineered to accommodate a supercharged V8.. I think it was in the pipeline for awhile, after they realized they kinda alienated a lot people with the V6 only option..
I dont really believe that Ram had anything to do with that..
maybe it was excuses but they said leaf springs would not work with the V8 power they had in mind..
Did they? I didn’t see, nor did I really pay that much attention. I mean the reveal videos, not the alienation. Sales numbers of the ‘alienated’ ecoboost Raptors were pretty strong. I just see the timelines being too coincidental to be actual coincidence. And “engineered to accommodate” leaves a lot of room for interpretation - it doesn’t mean anything about their actual plans.
Stellantis: we have an off road truck with 700 hp. Up YOURS Ford.
Ford: We have the number one off road truck. Come at me bro’.
Stellantis: Ok
Ford: Wait, we also have a 700hp truck. Or we will. After you take our lunch for 2 model years.
Stellantis: I’m sayin’.
Ford: You just wait!
Stellantis: Waitin’ now, bruh.
Ford: Wait some more.
Stellantis: Loving these renewed truck sales.
Ford: Now we have the number one off road truck with as much horsepower as you. Almost. and it’s quicker. And we’re charging a shìt ton more and people will pay it.
Stellantis: We’re going in another direction anyway.
I thought for sure:
RR would never make it past drawings
Then when announced, would never make it to public sales
Then when it was announced and we all waited for ... how long? I figured it was going to get axed.
Then they did release it after announcing their platinum pricing plan.
- alienating pretty much 98% of FRF and the people who use their trucks off road, right?
Then when Stellantis announced no more TRX, I was sure RR would get the axe almost immediately.
Obviously, I am not quitting my day job for an automotive market prognosticator ;-)
I’m happy the RR made it and it’s still being made.
