Holy crap! I couldn't find where it was mounted in the pic. It took me a few seconds! I like how low profile it is also.

Nah that relay isn't for this project, that's the solenoid relay for my train horns

I see the light draws 9 watts, not sure off the top of my head how many amps that is at 12/14 volts. Is your switch rated for that current/power?

I ask since I ended up researching relays for like an hour after I posted!

BTW my wife thanks for stealing my husband for another afternoon! :)

There's very little current draw on it, maybe .75A. Since it was a random switch I had laying around, no clue what it's rated at and hell it may have said on it... But it did have the standard size terminals (no micro ones) so I'm confident it's good for at the very least 1A.

Thanks to Infinitereality & Java I finally got this mod completed. I didn't use the switch that Infinitereality shows in his write up, and that was because I couldn't find one. The one I ordered from Amazon was way too big. So I ordered the Mecury Switch from Amazon and installed just like Java has in his PIC.

I was thinking about using the pin switch, but our Raptors have plastic fenders and I just didn't see a place for mounting it without doing some modification for grounding it and ensuring the hood would contact it when closed.

I was thinking about using the remote start mount switch mounting plate for a pin switch, but I didn't want the wiring going 2 directions so the mecury switch is what I choose to go with.

Overall I spent about $45 to do this mod.

Yea I sent the big ass rocker switch back to the vendor.

Nice write up, I was on the fence about doing this mod but now that it's in I'm glad to have the light when I open the hood. I had a hood pin switch from my alarm that wasn't being used so I put it to good use. Thx

That is a great job, I have done that on my trucks, big and small, since 1980. It is much easier with all the lighting options that are now available. Your set up looks like you get plenty of light.
