I'm still not grasping how the mercury switch works. I'm assuming it works like the switch in this refrigerator. I need a better explanation of one to understand it. I'm going to do this mod one way or the other. I guess I need to start googling. ;)

Would that mean it would come on when you jump it??

I've had one for more than a year. I guess it could come on with bouncing around. I don't care too much. LED lights have a zillion hours on them and then bounce around time is only a percentage of road time. A go pro would answer the question. There is already a mercury switch on my truck for the remote start so you can't remotely start the truck with the hood open.

I was thinking you could just as easily set up a pin switch instead.

Ordered a mercury switch for another project, $7.50 shipped. I may get a 2nd one once this one comes in, depending on size. Wiring will be a cake walk, just hook in line with the negative wire.

Blind, I assume that the mercury switch would close the circuit when the hood is raised to a certain angle.

Yea Dataustin, I did end up googling it to find out how it works, but I'm leary about it being stuck in the on position when parked on a incline and off-roading with one.

I'm definitely interested in how Infinitereality is going toninstall one to prevent it from coming on when not needed.

I received the light other day, now I'm waiting on the waterproof rocker switch with inline fuse holder to show up. I will end up having right at $60 invested in it once done.
