Picked up a used 2010 Supercab 5.4 with a few options, with 157,000 miles on it about 6 (?) months ago, put 13,000 more miles on it, now at 171,500... Looks decent in and out but the rocker panels are completely rusted... and I mean completely, utterly GONE. Terrible rust issues there and around certain spots like around the passenger door handle, and a few other places. I've never been a fan of anything new, my other truck is the newest thing I own, an '84 Chevy Silverado crew cab dually long bed, but seized the 454 going to work one day from a seized oil pump, so it's waiting to get rebuilt (once I have the room to build it up... in a dinky ass house atm), but the Raptor popped up, friend of a family member kinda deal, so I snatched it. The 1st Gen Raptor is the only new truck I've seen rolling around that I considered cool, simply because it has that desert race pre-runner thing goin' on. But man I hate new anything. The Raptor is fun, but the sheet metal is ridiculously paper thin, like every other new car. My other truck is sitting out in the rain and has no rust at all after 37 years, and this Raptor is 11 years old and on the way out already... ridiculous. Haven't had the chance to thrash it off-road yet, as it's my only working (street) vehicle, but I'm sure it's a blast. Very happy with the little 5.4, I hammer it constantly, and truly amazed at how well it handles on pavement in the twisties... very impressed. Best on-road handling of any truck I've ever driven. And though the little 330ci small block is pretty decent, I definitely wouldn't mind the 6.2. Been fairly trouble free, replaced the MAF sensor, plugs, and the downstream O2 sensor is toast... the transmission only just started to slip a little on hard pedal to the metal uphill climbs, definitely needs a rebuild, clutch packs are worn obviously. I never use full auto, only manually shift it, and hateeeee the ridiculous useless 4/5/6 'D'... Need to find a shit kit to let it stay in 4th until I'm near redline instead of the stupid, as-soon-as-it-shifts-into-4th-it-goes-to-5th-and-6th-immediately crap. Would love to have an actual 6 speed shifter and just shift all 6 gears manually. Hmmm what else. Oh yeah, had to swap out the paper thin, leaking, rusted rear end cover for a nice cast iron cover, and just put on 4 studded snows to replace the M/T's that I already wore out (I'm hard on stuff)... Fun truck though, could do without all the electronic crap, but hey, welcome to the 21st century.
