So my PX6 was delivered today a day earlier than planned! So this was a replacement as I ordered as soon as it was released and was sent a PX6 version that had 4GB ram and 32GB storage. Was weird but Jun from Phoenix said it would be better to return it and order again. Not a big deal so did as he suggested.

So anyway back to what I found in the plastic bag of wires and cables. Not sure if it is longer as I have not installed it or opened my dash back up yet (and don't remember the PX3 length of the current version installed). Damn..long sentence, sorry.

I look at the installation video online and that version of the "cable" is about 4 inches long. The one in the picture measured 12 inches long. If I remember correctly the pictured cable is the one that needs to be longer to mount the Sync3 right side up (using 2 screws instead of the 3) from before.

I am hoping so if anyone can look at your unit to see how long the cable in question is.

So if it is the new longer version of the cable and it is being included with the units shipping from Hong Kong, that would be great for everyone who recently ordered or were waiting for the cable to order.

Hoping to have time to install before the weekend.View attachment 126564

Your cable is definitely much longer than what came with the PX3. As you guessed from the install video, mine is about 4" long, definitely not longer than a hand

So I got it install late this evening and after a rough day I will test everything I can tomorrow.

The cable is perfectly long enough to allow the Sync module to be mounted right side up.

I have not installed any apps or even setup wifi connection to the built in hotspot from Ford/AT&T yet. I will do that in the am before I leave for work and install waze as well.

I did disconnect the negative terminal on the battery just in case before plugging everything in. Before snapping into pace I reconnected the battery and powered on the truck. I did not pay attention to how long it took to boot but it was not long at all as best as I could tell.

So headed to bed as 0500 comes early. Will update more as I get everything setup.

Definitely interested in one of these but not being very techy, I'm not sure I understand how this works.

Do you still have the ability to play CD's?

Does the Sirius XM still work?

Do all the steering wheel controls still work?

With regards to the navigation, I understand that it will likely be google maps or Waze for example but how does it actually function?

Does it function independently like the stock navigation? Or do I have to download the maps ahead of time or do I have to run it of a hotspot created on my phone which then means it will chew up my data plan?

Sorry about all the questions just trying to understand how it works compared to the stock system.

Running a bit behind this am but so far here are my observations.

  • As Guy has said, all apps definitely run smoother and load faster.
  • Waze and Google Maps work great though my commute is only 30 minutes.
  • There are 2 songs preloaded I assume to test the music player and they work as they should and the steering wheel controls move to next song and volume works correctly.
  • I opted for the Apple Car Play and Android Auto add-ons (not that I needed them but wanted to see how it would be different). There is an app installed that starts with a "Z" but don't remember right now. That app allows for Apple CP and AA to run to the tablet itself and not need the vehicle Sync3. You do need to plug the phone in via USB to one of the tablet USB connections. Will do more tests to see if there are any advantages for me
  • YouTube and YT Music all work well. Will install Spotify, Pandora, and other apps I use this evening.
  • I did a restart to check boot time and it was 19-20 seconds to full on display.
  • Split screened YT Music and Waze for about 15 minutes (until I had to go into work) and it worked just fine.
  • I will be testing the steering wheel controls a lot more in various apps and when in Console mode.
  • Need to see if the apps I use work well in split screen and don't crash when doing so.
If there is anything anyone would like me to check, I will do the best I can to do so.

Do you still have the ability to play CD's? No, you lose the CD player because the screen is in the way

Does the Sirius XM still work? Yes, all Sync 3 functionality is retained

Do all the steering wheel controls still work? Yes, although I think @Guy mentioned above that it's broken in this version and they're working on a fix

With regards to the navigation, I understand that it will likely be google maps or Waze for example but how does it actually function? It functions just like it would on an Android phone or tablet

Does it function independently like the stock navigation? Or do I have to download the maps ahead of time or do I have to run it of a hotspot created on my phone which then means it will chew up my data plan? You can either download the maps ahead of time to save data, or you can run it off your hotspot. I don't think running nav consumes too much data

Does this mean that Android Auto is full screen on the tablet? Or is it still half screen? Or "partial full screen" with black bars top and bottom?

To answer the question about the location of the buttons (hazard, camera, autostart/stop), they're relocated to the top of the unit, like in this picture.

top-buttons.jpg

Thanks for this. That also does a good job of showing how 'clean' the installation looks. It could easily be mistaken for stock if you didn't know any better.

I see why the move is necessary, but not totally crazy about the relocation since you won't be able to see the buttons anymore. It's only 4, and I'm sure it won't be a big issue. I do use the camera button a lot. I think I would have preferred if they had made the plastic casing (whatever it's called) and kept the buttons still facing the front. Then again, it wouldn't be relatively flush to the dash and perhaps didn't look right.

One of the issues I had with the previous model was the GPS not working via the sync. The vehicle was getting the gps signal, but the native navigation wouldn’t work. Waze worked fine

So does the new model allow navigation (google maps/Waze) to work via sync?
