Thanks for all the feedback about our Lightning style exhaust, all comments are well received good or bad, even if you have our product or not
The original design of the SW Lightning style exhaust from consumers and our vast dealer network was to design a side exit exhaust reminiscent of the Ford Lightning truck but to fit the Raptor applications. It started with the 5.4 and moved into the 6.2 applications. The demand was high enough we brought the initial product design into our standard production efforts. We have been selling them since 2010. At the time we sold them for Raptors that were mainly used on the street. Shortly after we received a call from a few of our dealers requesting an exhaust that exited before the passenger rear tires, this was simple because we already mad a few of them on a custom one off basis. We did our R&d thing and came up with a system to fit our headers, then designed one for a factory connect using stock manifolds. One of the key points was the exhaust didn't interfere with the stock rear springs during extended compression or extension. Easy fix if you needed more travel and now you have a wicked trophy truck style sound.
The problem at hand now is that we have a few customers who really use their trucks off-road and have experienced an issue with our design. Honestly, we probably didn't consider a second hanger or stronger connection point for two reasons. One, we sell 10-1 more Lightning systems for use with headers in comparison for the factory connection manifold systems. Two, this is the first time since product launch 2010 we have seen any issues, probably sold a minimum few hundred systems between day one to current time. Keep in mind there are a number of factors that contribute to the problem including poor weld or severe off-road use just to name a few, not trying to point blame just make sure we are all on the same page and being honest and truthful.
We are aware of the problem at hand and have spoken to most of you I believe. SW has made a stronger Y-pipe connection and an additional hanger modification to solve the issue, again we still are looking at the 1% of users having the issue and have already worked with a few customers to resolve the problem. A good product will continue to evolve and improve, seems we are heading in the right direction, thanks for all feedback.
If anybody has any issues please contact us directly and yes please exercise a bit a patience as we cannot monitor all forums 24-7, but we are here along with our dealers for support.
Thanks,
