"Values are nothing but narcissistic eyewash if they are abandoned when they become inconvenient"

quoted for the truth

I am not saying the dealer is doing anything wrong but yes its a double edged sword as far as keeping and growing a customer base and making a larger profit due to the market.

I tend to agree with Ruger on this one. Dealer markup is just another instance of where the the whole dealer/distributor relationship is flawed anyway. Commission-based pay plans just incentivize the salesman to screw you over for as much money as possible, because his pay is dependent on that. If they can get away with marking up the truck another $10k and some sucker comes along to buy it, they will. There's nothing illegal about it, but I don't agree with it and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

It makes me sort of laugh how quickly the dealer associations, especially in all of the big "THIS IS 'MERICA, WE HAVE A FREE MARKET" states like Texas are circling the wagons and passing laws to keep Tesla's direct sales model out. They're scared shitless. What happened to a little healthy competition being good for you?

Bring on the flames....

So let's take this a bit further Ruger. Let's say you're tired of the Raptor and want to move on. So, you have become the seller.

Now, it just so happens that in your area of Alabama there aren't a whole lot of well- maintained Raptors. Also, you live in a very affluent part of Alabama. (This is all hypothetical of course).

You do some research and find out the national avg selling price for your used Raptor is $30K. But there are some neighbors of yours who caught wind that you're selling your Raptor and want it BAD. In fact one of them comes to you and makes you an offer which is $3K over retail value. Other guy jumps in and says "I'll give you $500 more than him".

Well, you're in quite a quandary now. Do you say "No fellas, I don't feel right about accepting more money than what I think it's worth". Or do you sell it for what the market in your area is willing to pay?

On the other forum I got half my posts deleted because I responded to a Canadian ****** who called me a "*****" with "terrible peripheral vision." Keep in mind, I'm not even Chinese/Japanese/Korean etc. Me round eye.

I got banned for trying to get Hennessey to back up their claimed horsepower gains with dyno sheets. I was evidently bearding the lion. No lions here - y'all are pussycats! :)

MCR, I do so love hypothetical questions. What if one of those prospective buyers was a relative? What if the other was my boss? What if she really did have big *******? :) Yeah, yeah. My personal experience when I sell something is that I get one offer at a time, and I accept the first responsible offer. The day I get a situation like the one you've invented, I'll give you a call and ask your advice! :)

For what it's worth, I have an exceptional imagination and I am completely at a loss to understand what "***** with terrible peripheral vision" might mean. But I'm going to the optometrist next week, so I'll ask.

And I haven't seen the word "******" in print for several decades. Good on ya, JB!

As a person who met the Beibs in person recently I can vouch that he's not a *****.

He does, however, own a purple truck.

We have a local dealer that used to engage in the HIGH markup deals. They got a new sales manager and stopped that practice and their sales have skyrocketed.

Personally, when I sold my 1970 Mustang last year-I posted the price and sold it to the 1st fellow that said he would pay it. Even though I had several folks that said they would pay more than what I asked.

I'm a crotchety old fart too but I find that "greedy " behavior tends to work against you in the long run. Especially in smaller population centers.
