Opinions on Forged Offroad shock rebuild

Looking for opinions on the difference, if stage 1 is worth it, etc. Im pushing 75000 miles and about due for a shock rebuild. I picked up a set of used front shocks for $180 and am looking to do more than just reseal them. Looked on Forged Offroad's site and went through the estimate form. To build the front shocks with stage 1 valving, flutter stack, mid perch mod and viton seals. Total before shipping is $725.00. To do all that and the cost of shipping and used shocks will set me back about $1K. And the rear shocks will need to be gone through soon too.

As a former desert racer (dirt bikes) I can appreciate good suspension. but seems a bit pricey for my working man's budget, IMO. My truck is a daily driver with about 25% off road use. Running mid perch with Gieser Bros springs, Nationals SD's in the back. Only mild to medium offroading and I've only jumped it once.

hey mike, im going through az in may and can pick up your shocks. and then be coming back in the first week of july and can drop them off. if you can go 6 weeks without them, i know the shipping is really expensive so i can help you out there. i had matt and paul rebuild mine. im not sure what they did, as im not too technical about them, but the seem to work well. you got my number, text me anytime.

Hi Noah, When in May are you coming through? Kind of a busy month for me, but lets hook up. Maybe burn some beef & a cocktail.

I might take you up on the offer, depending on what I decide. Or I might take them to SDHQ here in town. They are a whole lot less, but dont have the upgrade options that Forged Offroad does. That's why I'm looking for feedback from people who have the upgrades installed.

I did the forged offroad rebuild stage 1 with flutter and mid perch. One thing of note, if you are at midperch now, there is no charge to set it there. they are a good deal. the one thing i wish Paul did from the outset is just put the shrader valve in standard. my rear shock lost nitrogen pressure not long after i got them. the crap factory self sealing gasket leaked. guess thats not that uncommon. didn't realize that was an option, but it should be standard just to guarantee against any issues. It can be a pain trying to find someone who can refill the nitrogen properly

Thanks MPK. What noticeable to differences did you see that you can attribute to the stage 1 & Flutter stack? Does it make a big difference on whooped out roads? That would be worth the extra cost right there.

Had all the above done to my Gen 1 in May 18. Was at ~90k miles and starting to experience the hop at speed over expansion joints and bad road, especially when encountered during a turn. Was a noticeable difference in small and large bump performance post rebuild (no jumps). Would absolutely do it all over again, especially the flutter stack. Its butter. The guys at forged were good to work with as well! No leaks or problems so far and about 10K more miles since.

im coming through monday the 20th i believe. and then in july it will be sometime in the first week. havent set a permanent date yet, but im definitely coming through

I just paid for the exchange program and are awaiting mine to ship, after reading your comment about the nitro valve I called and asked them. To my pleasant surprise, it is now standard that they put the nitro valve on as standard now.

very cool. glad they are doing that now. thats good to hear

as far as ride does. its def better, but hard to quantify. i think mine weren't that bad when i did it (around 65k miles). not as "hoppy" now. i guess thats the only way to describe it. i think my ride will be better once i get the icon rear springs!

I like forged Offroad a lot. They make some cool parts no one else makes.

But I wasn’t too happy with my exchange program. After only barley 20k of only street driving (kids are back in school and no time to Offroad) all my shocks were leaking fluid badly and the rear shock shaft came out of the mount, the threads looked way worn out. I had to drive from AZ to SoCal with the shock dragging on the freeway every time I hit a bump. I paid for all the best options you could get and it didn’t really feel any different. I’m guessing a lot of the shocks they get are wayyy abused and worn out to the point they probably should be thrown out. If you look at their Instagram page they post pics of peoples shocks they send in that look totally trashed and rusted out that they are refurbishing. Probably stuff that I ended up getting.
