Hi guys,

Have been lurking for a while and am in the market for a truck. I really love the Raptor. Specifically the ride on the street and the 6.2L. Great combination. I currently have a 99 expedition 4x4 with 5.4L. That has been flawless. So my question is...
I will very rarely go off road. I want a F150 with the 6.2L and the on road ride of of the Raptor. But for me it will be a daily driver. I am thinking about a lariat or fx4 then maybe as a project with my son and daughter a Cambridge long travel kit. Would that be reasonable as a daily driver or should I just buy a Raptor. Either the Raptor or F150 would be used not new.

Thanks

You admit that you will never take it off road yet you are considering buying a "lariat or fx4 then maybe as a project with my son and daughter a Cambridge long travel kit"?

Why install a "long travel kit" in a truck if you never intend to take it offroad?

When I drove the Raptor a 2011 crew cab. I was really amazed at how the truck road. Smooth and soft. It soaked up the poor roads really well. It was a more comfortable ride than my expedition or current latiat/fx4 ride. (In my opinion).
So I guess that's what I'm asking is can some achieve the road ride of a Raptor with a different mode f150 with a 6.2L drive train?

Thanks for the help.

The answer to your question is yes. One can achieve equal to or better ride than the Raptor with an aftermarket long travel kit (remember, the Raptor is mid-travel ,not long travel). So, 90% of aftermarket long travel kits for a non-Raptor F150 will surpass the Raptor suspension in ride comfort. Camburg or H&M sell these kits from mild to wild! Just depends on how deep your pockets are.

A front long travel suspension with a properly tuned 3.0 coilover shock, rear under-sprung aftermarket leaf-springs with a bed cage and 3.0 bypass shock will far surpass the Ford Raptor suspension.

If you aren't ever gonna go off road, I'd order an FX4 with a 6.2 and opt for the 3.73 Elocker axle and save yourself a ton of $

Ok so what would I need to do the the suspension to get a similar ride to the raptor?
Which after market kits are most reliable for a daily driver?

Thanks again!

You will never get the same nice smooth ride of a Raptor out of a Long Travel kit. Period, plain and simple!

Now, (I'm assuming you meant Camburg) I'd suggest getting their Mid Travel kit if you don't have plans on needing the extra travel in the dezert, it is much cheaper and rides much better as a daily driver. Plus if you do get the Long Travel kit you might as well start saving for a long list of other parts for the rest of the truck(bedcage, long travel shocks, rear springs), because going fast is VERY addictive and costly :).

With that being said, I've had many many mid travel and long travel trucks over the last 12 years and I wouldn't trade my Raptor for a single one of them. The fact that I can comfortably drive it to Vegas, stop in Barstow and run the truck and still make it home is a very nice feeling versus fighting any long travel truck out there.
The extra $ you spend on a Raptor IMO is well worth the price.

As far as most reliable, Camburg hands down. There's a reason they are by far the largest off road suspension company in the industry

Resale value is another reason I wanted a Raptor, I planned on spending 50K on a new truck, if I built a standard F150 I might be able to get 20k in 5 years for it, hopefully in 5 years the Raptor will still be worth somewhere in the 35-40K range

Thanks for the reply guys. After thinking about it. I am going with my original plan. I really want a Raptor so I am just going to plan on that. I am going to keep my 99 Expedition that I have had and the kids and I can do projects on it. While I use the Raptor as my DD.

Now the hunt begins.

Thanks !!
