At TRR I actually LOVED just 4 high and no locker. I was de selecting gears and not in manual, This was letting the motor do its thing. 1st only in the tall shit, 1st & 2nd up to abot 40mph, I would let 3rd and 4th come on on the long sections up to 80 -90 mph. Oh I mean 45 on GPS. Then de select back down to decel and up as needed. This didn't hammer the motor. Only banged the rev limiter a few dozen times. HAhahaa. Man the power was TO THE GROUND and the ABS worked like a champ. Tap the brakes comming into those big sandy turns and the truck would pitch and yaw and HOOK THE **** UP! It was a blast. Pete the guy with me was hangin on for dear life. So was I! I almost broke off that dam shift lever several times! HAhhaaaaaa.

45 on GPS is as believable as 90 on the gps. If someone hit 90 on that track, I want proof. I know what a TT will do out there, and it isn't much more than that.

Not saying I have proof...
Hypothetically, there were a couple of places you "could" get up to that GPS indicated speed.. If you didn't get on the brakes hard, you "could" smash your skid plate..

If the track is the same next year, I will take you for a ride and point these area out... Lol

Back to report. Nailed it Greg. Sport track is an improvement. I still wish there was a way to get into off road mode without having to stop. ORM is still needed on the wash boards. With both features on it improves the ride close to perfection. Now if we talk about perfection,we get into upgrading the shocks and springs.........I ran a Pedders super car suspension on my 11 ss camaro. Oil cooled, you could adjust both bound and rebound which helped me achieve perfection on my B class SCCA Cammy. Apples and oranges. Thanks again.

Getting the RPG stage 3 rear kit would solve a lot of the skiddish rear end on washboard roads. Or at least from my personal experience, the back end doesn't skip around as bad with the national springs (being 11 leaf pack verses stock 2 leaf and overload)..

Thanks Greg. $$$ is a major factor right now. I'm stoked to have been able to catch a great deal on the truck. As you know, once you start the mod process you're inclined to keep upgrading the next,"Weak link". I did it in my Camaro to the tune of some 20k+ in upgrades. But hey,she had better lap times at Lime Rock then the Z06 Vettes.

Completely understandable... Just from my personal modding experience on these trucks (2011 & 2012).. If I was forced to pick only one mod out of everything I have done.
It definately would be RPG stage 3.. Not only for the piece of mind not bending the frame (by heavy hauling/towing/or hard offroading). The added control offroad and on road comfort is an added bonus..
It is the best comfort/performance on or offroad mod for the money..

Just about three months since your last post here Greg. Long enough for me to try to set a time frame putting the dough together for the stage three from RPG. It I'm lucky enough to have a winter truck when salt first hits the road the Rap goes down. It will be a winter project. Both monetarily and mechanically. I have to take it to the dealer next week for the annual state inspection. I will be indicating the ORM stop engagement problem. Not that I'll get anything but a blank look back and a one word answer. Normal. I also noticed some tire feathering.......

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. Back to your original question; have you tried tow/haul mode? If you at not worried about airbag deployment, this gives good engine braking with slightly higher rpm's maintained.

On normal driving, not racing around, I like using t/h and de-selecting the upper gears I really don't want to shift to.

On the stage 3: since you deal with alot of washboard. I got the stg 3 with the hd springs. With no load in the bed, the hd springs will bounce you around alot. I found I could deal with it once I realized it would happen. But I was in desert not on ice.

So if you not loaded much you may want to just get the standard springs.

But be sure, the stage 3 with h/d springs and the front at mid-perch, handles much better than stock. No hop and can barely feel minor washboard.

Offroad mode gives you a more linear throttle, desensitizes air bags, changes abs, and transmission.

So, in offroad mode the brakes and abs change to allow dirt/sand to build up in front of tires to slow you down. I noticed at TRR over washboard the brakes in offroad were not effective. Because they were skipping over the washboard instead of digging in.

The transmission will hold gears damn near to redline, and delays downshifts to keep you in the powerband longer. Again, at TRR many were running in manual mode instead of automatic.

Try sport offroad mode instead, single press of traction control and offroad mode on. During the Sunday mud run at TRR this was faster and more controlable..

Here is some more info on it...

didn't we decide that ORM does NOT change anything with the air bag sensitivity?
