Oil Level after oil change, is this abnormal?

This is my forth Oil change in two years since new and I currently have 9,000 miles.

every time I change the oil, I drive the Raptor until the oil reaches 100-110 degrees.

it is on level ground when I drain the oil and let it drain for half hour or more. I can not fit more than 5 1/2 quarts of oil every time. Am I reading the oil dip stick incorrectly or is this normal for our Raptors.

I have no idea, what the gen 2's take for oil, but you need to wipe the stick clean and it should be at the top of the crosshairs, also always check the next morning as well, after it cools off, I do that with my boat anchor Gen 1, lol.

My process-

I drain oil and change filter

Prefill oil filter so that media absorbs some oil

Fill engine with about 5.5 quarts and turn engine on - look for leaks

I let the car sit overnight and then check oil level - fill to top of hash marks

Your oil level looks good. Check level after sitting overnight.

I think I know what's happening. When you drain the oil from the pan, replace the plug, and then remove the filter and let that drain, do you then pull the drain plug and let it drain some more? If not, you are not draining out all of the old oil.

When you pull the filter it releases oil from some oil galleries, and that oil drains into the pan. If you don't drain the pan a second time you will be adulterating the new oil with that old residual oil, and you won't get a full six or seven quarts of new oil in the engine.

This is anything but unique to the Raptor or to Fords. It is true with my wife's Ford Edge, with my previous truck which was a GMC Canyon with a 3.5L inline 5-cylindar engine, and with my old Nissan D21 4x4 with a 2400cc inline 4.

Thanks. Yes, I keep the oil drain open and let it drain tomorrow after removing the oil filter

I have installed a drain oil plug with a turnover on it, I wonder if that’s restricting the flow of the oil

5 - 3/4 is about all I can fit in after a drain.

I try to check my oil when it is at normal temp 180-200 and after about a 2 min settle.

Oil expands when hot, and a 2 min settle will be a mix of what's up in the motor and what drains.

Crap....you changing the oil in your Rap or the 500? I counted 8 qrts of Amsoil on your hood. Unless you got a special edition reserve oil pan model that's more than enough. I always have a few swiggs left over from 5 qrts when I'm done.

Lol. Long story short, I always buy one extra quart to top off, (haven’t had to top off yet), and to pour 1/2 quart after the initial drain to flush out any left over oil. The the eighth quart, is, Amsoil screwed up and sent me the incorrect oil filter. I discovered this after already draining the oil so my truck sat in my garage with the garage door open for two days until the replacement filter arrived and they included incuded one additional quart, which is how I ended up with two quarts.…
